Might be trading my car

So I have a question for you guys. I am thinking about trading in my 1995 Mustang Convertible for a new 2007 Subaru STi. I need to know if this car is gonna last me at least 4 years (thats how long it will take me to pay it off) I won't be using it as a street killer or anything, just a to work and school and stuff. I love my mustang, but it just doesnt have enough space for me. I will someday own a nice classic stang, but the newer ones just aren't enough. So, back to the question, what do you guys think about the STi's. I will still stick around on this site because you guys are pretty much awesome.

personally I don't like them. Uncomfortable. The gearbox in my opinion sucks. Feels like you could miss second because of how tight it is. Yea, it's nothing a little getting used to won't fix, but I am not impressed with them. Yes, they can be strong, and powerful cars, but I'm not too overly impressed with them one bit.

go for it...the looks on the new one are kinda eh compared to the last gen but they are quick and the inerior is nice...so is the feeling of those Recaros I've heard tranny problems with Evos more then Sti's but im sure they have their share when people beat on it...i would do it since its a brand new car

They are great mountain cars and they can take a bit of a beating, they are roomy and put together better than an evo which are crap IMO. I say go for it it will lost I love Subaru.

A new Subaru will certainly hold up for the 4 years you need it to, even with some beatin' on it. They're not quite as fast stock to stock vs. an evo, but they're built a lot tougher - when's the last time you saw Mitsubishi finish a season of rally? Mitsubishi says their cars are NOT for off-road use, while Subaru shows theirs drifting through mud and snow in their commercials.

Though if you're worried about reliability, I'd go with a regular WRX over the STi. What you're giving up in power you're gaining in not having that extra power beating up your drivetrain, and if space is what you need, you can get it in a wagon.

^ Actually the STi is faster down the 1/4 mile than the EVO.

Regular WRX trannies are glass, at least in the 02-03 models.

About 5 people on Hondaswap (go figure...) have had a WRX and/or STi, so I hear about it all the time.

EVO's FTW!

just swap out the turbo for a bigger one and mod the turbo set up and you can make a shit ton of power and smake a GT if you wanted to..

first step tho is mos def getting a better exhaust and letting it breath a bit
idk that high pitched cry those cars have is kinda cute... have yall seen the video of the cryin sti?

IDK he probably was driving it to hard he recently flipped it he could barely handle his v6 mustang so his dad bought him an evo, but I know on 2 occasions he had his IC piping fall off on the road.

as far as the STi goes, i have a few buddys that have the brand new WRX & for less money than they would have spent on the STi they have built their plain WRX's up to where they are beating STi's & evo's easily... it's up to you, but i wouldn't spend the extra like 12 grand to buy an STi when you can take a regular WRX & with about 6 grand more make it really wicked.. & even the plain WRX's are quick out of the box...

IMOH, you really can't go wrong with the subaru's.. i love em...

i hate to say it, but yes, the subaru's are good in the mountains and can take a beating (as you can see up here nearly half the cars are subaru's) but i still hate them, in my opinion if you want something that will hold up, is pretty reasonable on price and has a decent amount of stock power with plenty of space (not to mention one of the safest cars on the road) go with a murcury grand marquis or a ford crown vic. no, they arn't nearly as good in the mountains but kansas is a pretty flat state, isn't it? and as for snow they do fine if you put studs on them

oh yah, they were rated to be in the top ten most reliable sedans i think, coming in behind only lexus, and i also forgot to mention that they are in the top ten cheapest cars to insure, can you say that about a subaru?
