98-02 Trans AM/Formula or Camaro Z28/SS
Right now I'm trying to purchase a car for my wife and can't decide between a Trans AM/Formula or a Camaro Z28/SS. The reason why I'm going for these two cars is for the LS1 engine, since I am not willing to dish out money for a C5 at the moment. I know for the most part they have the same specs, but as for the price most z28's I found were a little bit cheaper than the Trans AM's found with similar mileage and conditions. Also the insurance quotes seemed to be slightly cheaper although this isn't really my main concern. However, I'm just looking for a push in either direction so I can make my final decision hopefully by no later than Saturday. So if anyone has any insight into which car I should purchase for my wife I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I would go with the trans am. They are better looking in my opinion and more rare than the z28.

they are the same shit, formula looks better than the z28 BUT an SS would look much better than a WS6. six speeds or autotragic?

They're both the same car with different bodies is all, nothing much else is different. I think with the WS6 you can turn off traction control, thats one of its main advantages. There isn't anything wrong with the old 4spd in those cars if you're drag racing, its the better transmission. The T56 6spd is nice to have if you like rowing gears. Like I said earlier, the main differences in the cars may be some interior differences and the body difference, other than that they're the same car.
Get which one you prefer over the other, that LS1 is a great engine.

Just get the one your wife likes better. If this is kind of a secret that you want to keep from her, it's my experiance that the Pontiac is much more popular with the ladies than the Camaro. Of course, only you know what your wife will really like.
But yeah, they are all basically the same car.

As others have said they are basically identicle cars when it comes to parts as a huge chunk of our sales is in the LSX market. They are great cars to work on and their motors have massive potential and are super easy to work on. As others have said it's a matter of personal choice, I personally think that the WS-6 Trans Am is one of the sexiest bodies that has ever come out of Detroit and will be a classic for a long time.

Go either SS or WS6. I've always wanted a WS6 to sit next to my mustang.

I've got an SS, and two Z28's. Go with the Trans Am. They're always more expensive than an equivalent Camaro.
They look more aggressive, and are just sexy looking in red. Some people say they have a better quality interior than the camaros, I liked the T/A interior better at first, but after having the camaros it just feels more cramped in a T/A. Even my friends mentioned this. I think it's due to how T/A's have the vents and everything looking more driver positioned. They're also well on their way to being a collector car. Red Trans Am, completely stock, paint the sail panel black, and do the CETA mod. Will look downright amazing. |

I Have owned both cars, a Bright Red 1998 Camaro Z28/SS and a (Still own) Black 2001 Pontiac Transam WS6. Both cars do use the same platform but feel completely different.
The exterior of the Transam is eexaggerated to the point it is hard to see more than the rear quarters with the side mirrors. The "pop up" headlights are prone to issues. (stripped gears, bad motors) The interior does seem to be smaller, but It is the way the dash is setup. It seems to wrap around you more like a cockpit. Both cars have issues with window motors, They slow down as they age. Those are my only complaints about them. I drove the Camaro SS for 14X,XXX miles with only a few minor issues. And have driven the Transam for 3X,xxx with the issues listed above and a new transmission under warranty. The TA and Camaro are a dime a dozen and value is dropping fast! I would go for a 01/02 Firehawk With all SLP options or Blackbird if I were thinkin TA. If I wanted a Camaro it would be a Dick Harrel Berger SS or a 01/02 Camaro SS With all SLP options including CME. Maybe a phase 4 ZL1 If I could afford it. lol ![]() Berger ![]() Dick Harrell SLP Camaro SS with CME ![]() 10th Anniversary SLP Firehawk ![]() GMMG Blackbird
