2003 Ford Explorer

When I drive at speeds <5 mph I hear ticking/flapping noise.

At initial start-up I hear ticking/flapping especially on cold mornings.

I do NOT think theses two noises are related.

Ideas?

I like this vehicle. 117,000 miles and the only thing I ever did was an alternator change.

is it a 4.0 or the 4.6? is it coming from the engine bay or somewhere else? need a little more info on where it sounds like its coming from. seen a lot of 02+ explorers have wheel bearing, tranny, oil passage problems, etc. lot of reasons for a tick. also quite a few tsb's for those as well.

Cold morning tick possibly lifters leaking down some, though you cold try putting on a high quality oil filter cause a cheep filter will do it too. A lot of cars will do this will cheap filters but most people don't notice or don't care. Need more info on the other noise but it sounds like it could be tire related.
