2001 Ford Ranger problem..

my friend has a 2001 ford ranger, and when he tries to drive it in drive, it revs real high and wont shift. and if he lets off the gas it just stop, and wont coast or anything..its an auto. im going to look at it later, but was just wondering what some of the problems would be?

You can buy some ford diangnostic tools likes Ford VCM...just search in ebay or other eshops, suggest you www.eobd2.com ,wish you find the right tool youself.
