My 1943 Jeep Build

My grandpa has had a 1943 Jeep from his days in the military sitting around. My uncles used to drive it around the property, but its been sitting around for about 20 years now. My grandpa can no longer drive and stuff due to dementia, and we live on the same property as them, so this thing is basically mine now. I think its in surprisingly good shape for being out in the weather so long. Tires still have air, transmission works, steering works. The first huge step I had to take was cleaning out a spot in my dang filthy garage.. but now Ive got it in here and am ready to start taking it apart. My neighbor is an awesome mechanic and we take all of our cars to him. I plan on him helping a lot because I am not capable of getting this thing running by myself. He has a huge shop, so Im gonna have him paint it. I think it has to be the classic Army green. but I have always had a love for flat black. My grandpa built the top out of plywood and fiberglass. He did a great job, but I want it to be back to all stock.

Sittin right next to the stang

This is what its gonna look like.

Very cool. Make sure to get authentic parts. It is going to cost you a bit to restore that, but it is worth it. Cool Jeep!

Yea when it comes to the body, I'm gonna need a complete windshield assembly, hood, and maybe a grill. The rest of the body is in decent shape. Just needs some intense sandblasting and sanding. I'm gonna take the top off in the next couple days so ill put some pics up. Of course my grandpa welded on a roll cage. It looks exactly like a hummer SUT. Its gonna have to go. God bless that man

Update. Took most of the engine off today. Took the driveshaft and tranny off. Gonna lift the rest of the engine out in the next couple days and then pressure wash and sandblast the crap out of the body. Then have it painted.

Cool Jeep, I used to know a kid whos dad had one IDENTICAL to the picture you posted. They did a full frame off and it took a couple years to complete, but they sure stand out! Good luck with the build!

a couple years? they must have really been taking their time. In the past two days we've pulled the engine and tranny, ripped off the old top, cut off the roll cage, and took the body off. Tomorrow after school im gonna get to sandblastin

Yeah, they really took there time. His dad has been a body man for life, and this turned out better than when it was first made, guranteed.

Take care,
