Read the article.

Other technologies featured in the new model include a new lightweight and high-performance 2.0-liter turbocharged MIVEC engine with aluminum cylinder block and a 6-speed automated manual transmission.
It's the best of both worlds. Drive it hard and shift, going to the store, let the trans shift itself.

I did read the article - clutchless manuals don't have Park.

Fully automatics also don't let you shift on your own without the clutch... like this one does. See the + and - by the drive?

Ummm, some do. Like the one in my mom's Subaru. And the one in the MX-5 my g/f rented. And the one in the Honda Fit. And the one in the new Tundra. Being able to shift gears does not a manual transmission make, nor does the ability to have the car shift itself make it an automatic. The newer Ferraris have clutchless seqential manuals that you can put in an auto-shift mode if you like.

Manual transmission = clutch (not necessarily with an attached pedal)
Automatic transmission = torque converter

There's only one example I can think of that breaks that rule - there was supposedly a dodge pickup that had both a clutch and a torque converter, you shifted it like a stick, but you could leave it in gear at a stop, and take off in 1st like an automatic.

Um alrighty then, can you shift your mustang and then let it shift itself when you want to? No. These are the cars I'm talking about.

It's an automatic that you can shift yourself if you choose to. Sure you can go between 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and drive in an auto, but that is NOT what I meant.

And that's not what I'm talking about. All of the cars I've listed either have the +/- gear selector OR paddle shifters OR both for an automatic, not just the L-2-3-D-[D]-N-R-P setup.

And no, of course you can't tell your 5/6-speed Mustang to shift for you, it's a standard, non-sequential, old-skool manual gearbox.

And that's the difference I'm trying to point out - between a sequential manual transmission, and a manu-matic. If you don't believe me, go rent a Caddy CTS. It's got a shifter pattern that matches the one in that picutre exactly, down to the +/-, but it's the sloppiest automatic you'll ever drive ("Shifts like a Cadillac" my ass).

I don't doubt that the actual production car will have a true sequential manual box as an option, but what they showed in that car wasn't it. If it is, then they're creatively misinforming people (like with the Honda Fit ads talking about their paddle shifters), and they're putting a manumatic in it.
