1989 Camaro RS

Before acquiring my Cobra, I motored about in a 1989 2.8L Camaro. Well to make a short story short, we bought it for 500 dollars and did a daily driver level restoration. After about a year, I blew the engine up in it. Now its sitting behind our shop. I'm batting around the idea of making it a track car and the occasional parking lot prowler so its going to stay street legal as possible. Removing the interior fabbing a dash with gauges, bolting in two racing seats with 5 point harnesses and welding a cage into it. For power I think I'm gonna destroke a 350 to a 292. I'm not sure what kind of transmission, but I know I want to go with a manual, and finally a 9" Ford rear end with 4.10s. Thoughts or suggestions anyone?

Call me a noob here, but why would you destroke it?

It'll spool up quicker, rev quicker, and it'll slightly cut down weight.
