Any reason in particular? I know they're a much better motor than people give them credit for, but I'm not familiar enough with the differences between the LS1 and LT1 beyond iron vs aluminum and the way the LS heads mount to say why one would be better than another (well, other than factory power ratings).

the LTx is still sbc based, has a wide aftermarket (excpet for manifolds), cheaper, and takes to mods great. they are (imo) more forgiving/happy with cam selection depending on application. this in turn shows with low stronger end grunt the LT's have over the LS's. the LT downfall agains the LS's is the LS's ability to flow more volume at higher lifts which in returns gives the LS's better top end power. both are reverse flow and is great for pushing the compression/tune harder.

not to be biased to one or the other, but the fatest 6spd f-body is LTx based

So, really, for the Roadmaster, it sounds like the LT1 is gonna be the better way to go anyway. I'm not interested in peak power with that car, just something that's very comfortable cruising at 80, which it does right around 2k rpm. Bumping the powerband higher would just make it less efficient for what I use it for.

youre on the right track. the LTx has great low lift VE and is great for the tq. if starting from nothing, not doing head work, etc; i would recommend lookin for a set of 561 heads. they supposedly flow best as cast, but not too much room for porting.

Good info... but it's gonna be a while before I get there. Right now I need to sort out this stupid SES code that keeps popping up (and preventing me from being able to pass smog).

yeah one thing about sb 350's if i cant find parts for it i might as well step away from the motor

i love older motors, im not a gear head or anything but hell even i can wrench on an older carbed motor, most of it you just look at and figure out how to do it within a few minutes

now once you get into the internals i still wouldnt know what im doing lol

i definitely need a built rear end, posi with some gears, i dont know what gears to go with though, its only a 3 speed auto tranny, no over drive

edelbrock makes an intake that fits with the vortech heads, its a route ive looked into
