anyone familiar with a chevy 350 small block?
so i bought an 82 camaro with a chevy 350 small block, 4 barrel carb, 350 turbo tranny and i need some guidance in the right direction
what would be a good heads/cam/intake/carb combination? i heard 350 vortec heads are pretty nice, maybe pair that up with an edelbrock air gap vortec manifold, and an edelbrock thunder series 650 carb? just throwin some ideas out, not sure about a cam i will eventually get my nitrous kit on it

I was gonna suggest checking w/ Edelbrock, they have some good power packages that have been proven to work.

You also might want to check out some chevy forums they should be able to lead you in the right direction better than we can here.

I have never rebuilt the bottom end but on my Caprice but I did rebuild top end (intake manifold, carb, distributor, etc) I ran a 4 barrell 650 cfm Holley, Mallory HEI distributor, and a cheap alternative to Edelbrock intake manifold was PowerPlus. Not sure if they still make them. They guy at the parts store said it was someone who designed intakes for Edelbrock started his own company. Could be BS but
. But was a decent build. Never had to replace anything except the first distributor I had went bad (due to the car sitting for so long in a moist environment) I think the intake manifold was typhoon series

or ive also considered a 383 stroker kit for another route as well

you are probably gonna want a more aggressive carb than 650 then.

My dad put on an edelbrock top end kit from Summit Racing on his 350.
I want to say this one. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-2098/?rtype=10 Then I want to say he bought a set of 1.7 ratio roller rockers. You will need tall profile valve covers for them.

well i finally got around and found the engine ID number today and to my surprise i have a 1958 or 59 turbo thrust 348 big block "W" series motor, it came out of a chevy truck
250hp/355tq although it still runs like a dog, with those numbers i have a good feeling it wont take much to wake this motor up im pretty sure the timing is still off and the carb needs adjusted but i wanted to identify the motor firsttoo bad it wasnt a 409 though

the 409 was terrible in stock form and was hard to deal with when you start messing with them.

well i was wrong anyways lol apparently none of the numbers or stamps on the block are the right codes and i looked every place that there should be stamps
the code i thought was the engine ID stamp matched up to what you would find on a 348, however when i joined a 348 forum i found out pretty quick it wasnt a 348 except for GM 3970010 on the block, the most conclusive evidence i got was that it was a replacement motor somebody bought awhile back already built and all the numbers were most likely stamped on the engine by the company who built it for their purposes so about 90% sure its a sb 350 oh and i always have this older guy telling me how the 409 was a sweet motor back in the day, so i figured id take his word for it lol

depends what all you want to do and how much you want to spend. the vortech heads are great budget heads. remember, you have the tiny 7.5 in that thing so you will wan t to watch the tq you pound out as well.
myself, i just picked up a 440sbc project engine for my old truck

Man, just open a summit catalog, hahaha, 3 out of every 4 pages are just SBC parts. There're pages of just top end kits.
I'm SOL because my tree-fitty is TBI, and NO ONE makes any CARB-approved parts for a TBI motor; it's all either for carbureted motors or LT1s. And until I get the 5.0 done I'm not even remotely contemplating a swap (though an LS2 in that car would be badass).

Yeah, when I get to that point, I think an LT1 swap is the easiest option.
I just have a hard-on for aluminum blocks.
