Dodge Viper
Firstly, you don't see many and they are a very misunderstood vehicle. I am on my second one and can drive weeks without seeing another.
Two reasons: production has always been extremely low. There have been a total of around 25,000 built since its beginning back in 1992. Compare that to about 2,500,000 mustangs for the same period. 2007 was a great production year for the S197 with around 150,000 built. That means that more mustangs were built in the first 3 months of 07 than all the vipers ever produced. Other reason is that they wreck a lot. My local Dodge dealer states that 50% of the vipers they have sold since 2006 have been totalled, as in gone forever. The reason for the disproportionate amount of single vehicle viper accidents is that they have few of the safety controls that come with mustangs, vettes, and such (look at my sig). Lots of folk just do not have the driving skills necessary and the results are predictable. I have lost control of both my vipers a few times, but regained control and no wreck (just lucky maybe). I don't street race and don't show off in the car. The misunderstood part is that folk expect me to engage in spirited driving all the time and be a light to light racer. If you come across a black with silver striped viper and want to race... not happening.

Another issue with Vipers, especially the 1st gens, is that what would normally be just a fender bender can total out the car. That front clamshell is what, $15k before shipping, paint, and bodywork?
It'll be interesting to see what Chrysler has up their sleeve as the new Viper that's supposed to be out next year (I think). I'm wondering if they're gonna keep it as a total upper echelon halo car, or if they're gonna bring it downmarket just a smidge, say where it competes pricewise with the base-model Corvette. It'll also be interesting to see what engine they put in it. With the replacement SRT-8 motors pushing high 400s, the Viper is either gonna have to swing 600+ or Chysler is gonna have to hit hard with a marketing campaign educating potential buyers on the awesomeness of light weight (i.e 450hp in a 2300 lb car). We'll see... Dodge's new president is definitely a car guy... hopefully he can get that past the bean counters.

Thanks for sharing pics of your vipers. Mine is 100% stock and likely staying that way. I modded the stang quite heavily, enjoyed the experience, and now that time has past for me. My new money pit project is building a house...lol
Rumours abound for the 2013 Gen V. Mostly it's going to still be very limited production, V10 (or there will be riots in viperland), maybe up to as much as 700 hp n/a, a lot more user-friendly per new Federal guidelines and something that might appeal to the twin-turbo Porsche and $ 120+K crowd. There are quite a few in my area. Which is fairly surprising compared to the population. I see one or two at least once or twice a week. I know there is a full bolt-on black viper with some REALLY nice wheels rolling around. Sounds like sex at a stop light.

A friend of mine picked one up a couple years ago. It's bone stock, but still a pretty fun cruiser. When it was time for new rear tires....
