porsche 944

My friend was looking at a Porsche 944 online for $3945 with 92K miles on it. What do you all know about these cars? It has to be a decent daily driver, and i think he may do some touch up work on the body and interior, but not go crazy... what do you all think?

so 924 bad 944 good? It doesnt have to be blazing fast, i think they look good enough to make up for its lack of performance... looks like the handles are great!... and not to be rude but i did ask for opinions, i have already read up a lot about them and another link would leave me just as confused.

My cousin has an '84 944. He paid $1k for it, and it is falling apart. Don't do that. Apart from that, there is high availability of turbo parts for the N/A ones, since there was a factory turbo I think 85+. But I will caution you from my experience owning and trashing many German cars, parts are expensive as hell. Imagine a ridiculous price to pay for any part compared to parts for your Mustang, and double that, and that is what parts for real German cars cost. However, since there are a lot of 944s laying dead places, junkyard parts aren't too bad.

if he wants a porshe, try looking for a 914, those were the best handleing porshes ever made, and the turbo versions haul ass, i think you can pick them up fairly cheap too, but the 944 i think became the 914, but i'm not 100 percent sure, i could just be thinking of the 944 as the 914

944's are horrible IMO. If you're going to get one...get the 944 turbo. Those turbos had some issues, though.

yeah but i'd take a porsche with issues over a ford with issues anyday of the week, ya know?

i like the 944 body styles, especially if it's red... they just look fast, although i think my car is even par with 'em stock for stock, in the quarters, they are just well-engineered automobiles. and one in which i'd like to "test drive" one day :wink

tell your friend to spend a couple more g's and buy a 928. i saw one for like $9,000, and nothing beats a german 5.0l v8 316-326hp engine. It was my second choice of car, and i ended with my 98gt.

If you have the dedication, then a 944 is a fun car. I had a 944 Turbo. It was fun to modify, easy to make 400 HP, but not very reliable. The NA will be more reliable, but expect a 20 year old car to act just like a 20 year old car...

You need a lot of love and a big wallet to run a 944!
