Crown Vic Exhaust

Alright guys I'm looking at buying a Crown Vic for a winter beater/DD. Its gunna be low 2000's year. Probably gunna be around 170k miles on them but i can get them between 800 and 1500 depending on condition. They are old taxis and cop cars. I was thinking about doing the exhaust on it so i was thinking cutting the mufflers off and doing just straight pipes or doing cherry bombs or something. Idk does anyone know of something good to put on them. Gunna be welded on if i do mufflers. Thanks

Maybe do an offroad x/h, with stock mufflers? Pick up some power too. I'd think that would sound better than straight pipes.

I suppose you could cut them out and weld in new piping but it seems like you should be able to buy a cheap mid pipe. But no I think mil eliminators just make the light go off in the dash. And hell the mil's ok my dads GT stopped working after a week so I wouldn't recommend them anyhow.

Why not just leave it stock, and spend money on the fun car.

+1

It would probably need other stuff before a loud exhaust too, like brakes or shocks. Especially if it was a taxi beater car

I have a 2002 Crown Vic that I inherited from my grandmother last year. Because she never drove it, it's only got 24000 on the odo, but it's my winter/general purpose car. I have a cat back dual exhaust I picked up off of Ebay for around $250 shipped, and some dynomax super turbos I got off Jegs.com for not too much money. Sounds nice, and got me up to 245hp vs the 235hp of the single pipe.

If you get a retired police or taxi, they usually have duals on them (most taxis here in MN are retired cruisers anyway). Don't worry about the mileage, they handle 300K easy as long as they're not horribly rusty. If it's a retired cruiser, it'll have 3.27 or 3.55 rear gears, so you'll get good acceleration, mine's got grandma gears, 2.73:1... I get crap for acceleration, and crap for MPG because the motor is barely moving at 70mph.
