5.0 EFI to 5.8 (carbed to EFI)
As my name state, I own a Town Car.
Not a newer one, but a 1987. It has the 5.0 - NON-HO, and for that heavy of a beast, I want more oomph. I was able to locate a 5.8 Carbed (with a trans) for $250. What are the major componets that will need to be changed. I know of the timing cover, cam, Roller-lifter conversion (might as well,) Timing cover, Lower intake. I'll also be doing the 87-93 Mustang MAF swap - due to the fact that my original motor is SD based. I WANT to put a blower in there at a later date, but money is a little tight, so the blower can wait a few months. For the engine now - is there anything else you can think of? I WILL be getting a master reseal kit for the 5.8, and ordering an oilpan from a 5.8 Gr. Marquis from about the same year. Any other ideas that you can think of...?

So I'm assuming you're converting this 351 to EFI?
You'll need an intake manifold and a throttle body too. You'll need a flywheel.. I think you need a 50oz.

Same for the intake. I'm gonna re-use my upper - just grab a larger TB. Also - for the MAF swap I'm gonna do, will the stock 89 Mustang computer be able to make up for a 5.8 on the 19# injectors?

the 351 should just fall right into place, the only major thing that needs to be changed is the oil pan and you can use the 302 one, or convert the 5L in it now to an HO by taking the cam from the 351 and putting it in the 302, that was what made the 302 the HO

<---- Too muchI'm sorry! Yeah though, the 351 and 302 use the same motor mounts, you'll probably need a bigger hood too

I'm hoping to clear this stock hood (I was suprised how much clearance there is) but IF i do need to do something w/ the hood - I think a cowl will only look good. But why would I want to wreck a good 351 - just for the cam? Rember, there's no replacement for displacement!!
Already have the flywheel n' such. Just gotta grab an EFI lower, the cam kit, and the timing cover from the 5.0 - and I should be in business! ![]() Also - I DO have a 351 now - 1976. Came w/ a C4 Trans. About 80,000 miles on it, owner said it still works. If you guys know someone that wants a C4 Trans, let me know. (Redwingvksm@gmail.com) $350 obo

If you wanted, you can take the cam outta the 351, put it in your 5.0, and rebuild the 351.
Put a performance cam in it and sell it for $$ That's what I would do, besides, in an old engine like that, you're really not making much more power than you would with the HO.

The 351 is a non-roller with a mechanical fuel pump. The 5.0 is EFI roller motor...

Well, fudge. I took off 1 head - and i guess the previous owner allowed water to get in. (Cylinders # 7&8)
Guess I'll have to be overboring... Also - I MIGHT, (I stress the might right now) be just throwing a stroker kit in there - something that I won't have to worry about when I throw the blower on there (I'd LOVE to keep it around 8.5-9.0 compression) Who would you all recommend? Also - assume I'll be keeping stock heads for now (Atleast that is what it looks like. Maybe I'll pick up a GT40 set of heads somewhere) Who is perferred for parts? Rember - when the engine is done - i want to be in the range of around 500 hp. Even w/ that power, using it as a DD will be a little rough...

You can get a set of GT40 heads off a 5.0 Ranger.
I forget what year though, I believe '99+, I used to be really into 351s. Of course, they're iron. But search your junkyards, you'll find one.
