*Emergency* on my DD

I was driving home today im my 1997 olds' 88 and had a loss in power basically if you gave it more gas it would just flutter. I could lightly get it to go but it wouldn't really pick up and go and still wanted to cut out. I put it in neutral and gave it some gas and it died out and wouldn't start. after about 15 tries it started and ran the same crappy way i got one more block and pulled off at my aunts who i happen to be by and it died again. I said screw it and got a ride home. But now my dd is out of commission and i need it fixed rather quickly, so i was hoping you guys could give some advice as to what it is. It's seems like it has to be in the fuel system by how it was running. Also when i was outside of the vehicle you could hear a high pitched straining or siren sound from the gas tank area which makes me think fuel pump is going out but im not sure. Any advice as to what i should check and what it could be would be great thanks guys for your help.

I'm guessing you need to change the fuel filter. That's a cheap/easy place to start.

I should change that it does seem to be a reasonable place to start thanks man.

ok i'll check that out. also i wanted to tell you guys that i went to get my car from my aunts at about 7 am and it was not too warm yet out and it started up and ran just fine so why is it that my fuel pump is getting to hot and shutting off and when it gets hot it starts to sound like a high pitched siren noise?

getting old for 1 and if you only fill the tank to like 1/4 tank or there abouts, that will make one heat up quicker. full tanks keep the pump cooler

I would spray those lines with some PB Blaster before you try loosening them or you could twist the line in 2.
or take it to a quick lube and let them change it thatway if they break a line they have to fix it for you.

thats some pretty bad rust there

yeah thats the fuel filter. and thats the pb blaster and it runs around $5
spay it on liberally and let it set for about 30 miins.. and spray again when you get ready to break the line loose.

i suggest you try to tighten the line a little, then loosen a little, then tighten a little, then loosen until it feels like its gonna come off pretty easily that will help break any rust loose that could cause you to just twist the line off.

vise grips might be handy if needed also
