89 blazer w/4.3 V6 Backfires under hood, yer opinions?

Im trying to help my roomate who is a complete idiot and decided to change his plug wires out without paying attention to where they go. SO he asks me for help, i look at his Haynes manual hook his wires up to the proper plug/distributor location for proper firing order and it backfires out of the TB WTF? Im completely lost, i set the firing order right im almost positive, what could be the problem?

the wires are not on the cap correctly. take off the cap, put cylinder #1 at tdc, look where the ignition rotor is, put cap back on, run plug wires, and is should fire right up. the rotor has probably been pulled out sometimes during its life and was installed differently.
