4R70W questions
The trans is out of my 96 T-birb with a 4.6. What happened was the one-way clutch on the reverse drum came apart and locked up, toasting the clutches in the direct drive drum. When the one-way came apart it damaged the reverse drum and sprag. Common problem from what I hear.
My first question is, should i get a new drum with the updated mechanical diode or will an original style with the roller clutch be ok? My other question is, should I spend the money on solid teflon seals for the nose of the output shaft or will the cut style be ok? As far as the rebuild goes, I plan on using Alto and high energy clutches. Maybe doing the J-mod to improve shift quality and replacing the shift sol. TCC, EPC and both servos. I do have bit of a lead foot , no burn outs or anything, but the car is stock and a daily driver. I don't need a bulletproof trans just something that will last another 100k.Thanks in advance for any help. |

Found the info I was looking for. The stock roller clutch on the reverse drum tends to explode on 1-2 shifts above 5000 rpm. Looks like Ill be using the updated one. As for the seals, the new kit came with solid so thats whats going back in.
