85 Bronco

Just wanted to bounce this off you guys; I've got a bone-stock '85 Bronco with a 4-barrel 351W/C6 combo. It runs ok right now, but I'd like to get something more out of it. As it sits right now, it pulls pretty good down low, but falls flat on it's face at about 3500 rpm.

What's gonna be my best budget option for some more power that stays cali smog legal? I was thinking that some new heads would be a good start, maybe a cam? I know that my exhuast is pretty restrictive (have to stay single exhuast), would shorty-headers help at all? I could go to a larger cat-back as well, it's tiny as it is, I was thinking maybe 3 or 3.5" (normally I'd never go that large, but this is only a single pipe).

I won't have to smog test it unless I sell it, maybe just pulling off the thermactor system would help?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

This thing passes smog as is, and does it with flying colors. I'm just trying to keep it as legal as I can.

get a new carb, something that flows a little better then stock, an new air filter, and exhaust and headers that should be good for a low budget
