Gas pedal problem; 1988 Caprice

So last week, while I was doing some doughnuts in a wet parking lot , something messed up and the gas pedal now goes to the floor, but doesn't open the butterflies on the carburetor. Basically I can't go more than say half throttle. I figured it has to be something from the throttle linkage bracket thingy on the carburetor, down to the pedal. The linkage looks like it's good, and nothing's out of place. So I replaced the throttle cable. That didn't do anything. While I was tinkering with it, I underestimated my brute strenght and snapped the little plastic clips that hold together the pedal assembly, so I went and got another one of that, and it's still messed up.

With the gas pedal where it should be, this is how much slack is in the cable:

When I straighten out the cable and lay it flat, this is what the pedal does:

It's about half an inch off the floor.
I can't think of anything else that would mess up the throttle like this, so if anyone has any other ideas please let me know as quickly as you can. I'd like to get this beast back on the road

Its hard to tell by looking at pictures. Does the new cable have some adjustment on it? It should. Is the pedal assembly or any bracketry bent or broken? In the picture the throttle cable bracket looks like its laying in there loose and not attached, possibly broken.

What's shown in the picture is all there is to the cable, so unless you see something I don't, there's no adjustment. The pedal assembly is good because I went and got another one, and that didn't fix it. The linkage bracket isn't off the carburetor because the car is driveable. The car runs exactly like it used to, except the pedal is loose. There has to be slack somewhere but I can't figure out where. I thought it might be something with the carb itself, but like I said it runs normally except for how much I can push the gas pedal.

If the linkage bracket was broke it would make the cable have slack in it. It wouldn't make the car not run. I'm not talking where the cable mounts to the carburetor, I'm talking about the bracket that mounts the throttle cable, detent cable and cruise control cable. What is the silver hex looking thing on the back side of the cable where it mounts in the bracket? Looks like some sort of adjustment piece.

Ahh. I'll check that other bracket right now. And I tried to turn that that hex-piece, but it didn't rotate freely. It just spun the cable all the way down to the firewall. I may be doing something wrong so I'll try it again.

Well once I forced it into that bracket it works fine. I had tried that before but I thought it was taking too much force to be right, because it wouldn't go in. I just shoved it in and everything's fine now. Thanks for the help man.
