Life w/ & w/o Probes

Well I'm a proud owner of a 94 Probe GT (former daily driver w/cat back exhaust, optima battery w/4ga. grounding kit, CAI intake, pulleys, big brake kit, you name it) and it's life is currently over, that is until I get the $$ to get it up and running once more. Any probes out there?? Yeah I know they're crap, I've heard it from a lot of Ford enthusiasts, but I love it 'cause it was my first car.
Funny thing is is that when I was a teenager I thought the probe was the quickest thing man had ever created and I loved pulling beside a honda or toyota with a four banger and killin'em with my 6 - now, with a cobra, I see how dumb I must have looked.

I've seen a Roush Probe once!

I was in my Monte Carlo a few months ago and saw pearl red Roush Probe. I was thinking that maybe some putz just put Roush sticers on his car to make it look fast. I was sadly mistaken though! I ate his ass up from 0-60 but he owned me from there on up! I by no means have a slow car.383ci,TH350 w/ shift kit,Posi GM 10 bolt with 4.11:1 gears, cammed,Dart heads(260cc chambers 21 degree),Air-Gap intake,750 cfm Edelbrock carb, and a whole lot more. I've eaten my share of those new Mustang GT's and wont even revv at a ricer.
Anyway, i cought up to this guy and asked to take a look at his car. This thing was indeed a Roush edition. Turbo'd,nasty looking headers, chrome everything with a nasty idle!
I never knew Roush did a Probe but i guess they did and it's fast as hell!
It looked just like a Probe GT but had Roush emblems on it.

Wow I hadn't heard of a Roush probe either until now, and I had to google it to find out for sure, but I guess they made a few and they're still out there... damn I thought my 225hp n/a probe gt was fast, guess I was mistaken

yeah i never knew they made one either. i had a 94 GT 5spd and i loved that car, good in the corners and pretty quick red light to red light. only thing i hated was the price of the damn parts. and as far as i am conserened i think it is one of the best looking cars ford has made, second of corse to the stang.

Well said. Definitely #2 in my book of favorite ford vehicle styles. One guess as to what #1 is, lol. I've still got my 94 and it's a little tricked out. I'll post some picks soon - unfortunately they'll be still-shots 'cause it's currently broke and I don't yet have the money for a rebuild.

I think they are great looking cars...When I was in high school I always wanted one for a DD...I wanted a black/black leatehr interior/Probe GT...I just liked the way they looked...Hell I still think they are a slick looking little car...

I feel a little guilty daily driven my cobra. Once the probe's up and running (which I'm looking forward to fixing this winter, yeah right I don't have a clue what's wrong with it! lol) I can stop beatin on the stang every day. can't wait until then

i sold mine after i threw a rod, but i tell you what i bought the car right out of boot camp, it had 45,000 miles on it when it blew it had 165,000 and the only thing i ever fixed was a water pump, brakes and tires. thing was one tough motor. after the motor went i wanted to put a 5.0 in it and turn it into a rwd car, but money and lack of garage space killed that idea. would deff love to get another.

Well since you brought it up, my friend has his engine out of his 89 and since my probe's engine is out I figured, just for shitsngiggles, why not see if his engine would fit... so we brought over the 5 liter and couldn't quite get it to drop in the probe's smaller engine bay, but with only the slightest of modification (the strut towers are maybe 1" too narrow and the radiator might have to be angled a bit) I'll bet you could put a 5.0 in a Probe. Then convert it to RWD, definitely not in my budget, unfortunately, 'cause thattd be awesome to accomplish.

Funny - mine blew at 168K, bought it 5 years ago w/100K. Only thing that I ever had issues with was the water pump. Like you said - the little 24 valve could take a beating, to a point

i wish i still had an article i found on the 2.5 motor i found a few years back. this guy worked for ford (so he said anyhow) and said that the motor was desigined after an indy car motor. he said that the 2 piece crank case could hold 10,000 rpm all day long with very little mods. i know all the way till the time mine blew i never thought twice about showing it the red line.

For a V6, that 2.5L could really scoot... how did your's end up going? I think I threw a rod, but I haven't had the place or time to start repair. So I'm still in the dark.

Pics coming in the near future...

That'd be pretty sweet. I have seen two probes with the 2.3T engine from a T-Bird under the hood. I have no such aspirations with mine but those were some bad ass cars running in the high 11's.
