it's an electrical component.
when you hit the gas it spins faster.. hence the whine gets louder. it shouldn't whine

My Cobra does a similar thing, but it's interference in the electrical system getting piped through the a speaker.

could be a LOT of different things. hook a funnel to a short piece of hose and use it listen to various parts under the hood (funnel end to your ear). you can isolate strange noises pretty easily that way.
make sure you check your PS fluid level...that would make some noise if it's too low. |

It COULD be bad bearings, although after 36,000 I doubt it. I only say something because my 2002 F150 started making a whining noise like a supercharger and it was the bearings on the idler and the tensioner. If you eliminate other possibilities a good way to check if the bearings (it would be the idler or the tensioner if anything) are gone is to take a LONG screw driver and hold it on the bolt that holds in the bearing and put your ear on the end of the handle. If it sounds like its running rough (I can't describe it better than that) then its your bearing. If it is the idler or tensioner don't buy it from Ford because they will not sell bearings (at least for F150's) separately and you have to buy the whole assembly so just get a non Ford bearing and swap it.
