Question

69 Vette, how fast?

A friend of mine rolled up today in an old 69 Vette that he just bought. It looked to have LT's and MSD ignition, aluminum intake manifold, after-market carb, and maybe a real mild cam, but the rest of the motor looked stock.

He says it has a plate some place that reads 350cid/350hp and it has a manul trans.

Now my questions are: how fast is this car stock and how much do they weigh?

I think you can see where this is going. He talks bad about Mustangs all day, so I want to see if I can smoke him in my GT. I think it'll hurt his feelings worse when I tell him its 281cid Explorer SUV powered.

from my expeirience with 350 chevy small blocks, my bullitt wins, at least with a heavy pig of a 73 nova, i would imagine that you two will be fairly close depending on driving ability

See my sig for my E/T's. I'm pretty consistent with a 5 speed on stock tires, too.

I want to setup this race within the next couple of weeks and get it on film to post. I know he won't travel all the way to Beech Bend KY to run the 1/4, so it would have to be the local 1/8 mile at Music City Raceway (The Hill).

take a lookie here

the gear ration on those things blow for the power they put down along with their suspension so if he is stock in those areas you actually have a chance of winning

A 427 running a 15.02? That can't be right!

here is another site showing the number at 13.8 (for the big block 435hp)

that was pretty fast back then considering the technology of the day

Well, I'm sure with gears, sticky tires, and LT's that they'd drop some serious E/T.

And that is one thing that has me worried. He has LT's, etc., on this old beater vette.

well since you have gears and he doesn't (if he stock) then you should blow him away off the line and then just hope he doesn't catch up

True.

I want to smoke his ass soooooo bad right now for rolling up and looking at my GT like it was a slow POS compared to this old 69 fiberglass bath-tub vette.

I have no clue what elevation our tracks are at. If you can find it, look for Music City Raceway in TN and Beech Bend Raceway in KY. That is where my 1/8 and 1/4 timeslips are from.

Keep in mind I hop the car out and it pretty much goes down to near idle when I'm leaving the line, and I'm on stock 245-17 Goodyear skaterbacks.

Oh I see yea because the track is only at 529 feet but that makes sense now you should do something about that and start running some 12's

Thanks, bro. :

The old Ford there looks good! The color kind of reminds me of a Ford Ranger I had back in 95 that was sapphire blue.

Thanks I actually think that's what the paint is (99.9% sure).

I remember years ago I would always say it was gay because it was purple and my dad would always be like its sapphire blue not purple.

I used to tell everyone that all the time; not purple, it's sapphire blue! lol

Ford used it on some F150's, I think 95 Mustangs, and some Rangers.

The color on my car was used in 96-97 and is called Deep Violet Clear Coat Metallic.
