Engine Clean Up ? on Explorer Sport Trak

Hubby's truck is disgusting. I'm embarrassed to park in the garage next to it.

So...as a Father's Day gift...I am going to clean it up for him today/tomorrow.

What parts in the engine bay should I try to cover up before I power wash it out?

Please remember I am engine inept - Diagrams/pictures and simple words much appreciated

Thanks guys!

My ex used to detail cars...he said as long as you don't get the wand too close to the engine, don't stay in one spot too long and only stay in there long enough to get the grime off it should be fine.

Asked a guy at the dealership where I buy my cars how he does it - same damn thing the ex said.

But it still makes me nervous as hell.

Okay...well, I simple greened it and sprayed it off. Everything seems to be okay. I blew the liner out as well. It's completely saturated so leaving the hood open over night to let it drain naturally then I'll stick it in the sun in the morning so it can dry out faster.

Cleaned up good for an old broad. I'll post pics tomorrow. It's washed, waxed and the tires are shined up. Going to do the interior tomorrow. It's a stye!

I detail cars at a Ford dealer.. you can get it wet. We havent hurt anything ever, and we have a high pressure washer. We spray the engine compartment down with a light degreaser (dont use heavy duty stuff unless you're careful with it, you have to know what you can hurt with that stuff before using it) and THEN wash it off, it'll come a LOT cleaner that way. Maybe try not to spray directly into anything, but you can get it all wet and it should be just fine.
