DSM people need help

I have a 94 eclipse gs 4g63 non turbo and I wanted to throw a 16g turbo kit on it. This forum tells you it is not really that hard. I know some one who knows who to install turbos but It says all I really need is a double layer metal head gasket. Is this true? All I would be pushing is about 8 psi. The 4G63 NT Engine, and How to make a turbo kit for it! - DSM Forums

I thought the non-turbo DSMs didn't have the 4G63? I thought they had the same 2.2L that was put in the twin-cam neons.

You are thinking of the 95-99 (2g). The 1g's actually had a form of the 4g. It wasnt exactly a 4g63, it was nowhere near as strong if i remember correctly. You can also find these engines in old Hyundai's. It can be done, but i wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for any form of relibilty

the 1gs either had a 1.8 sohc 4g67 or the 2.0 dohc 4g63 the 4g63 came in the turbo or na the only difference of the block is the the turbo 4g63 has oil squirters to keep the pistons cool.

Yeah i knew the 1.8 was way off.... I didnt no the n/t motor was also a 4g63, i thought it was like 4g64 or something off like that. I know it lacked a few things the 4g63t motor had i.e. squirters, and i believe the pistons differed

I didnt know that, My sister had a 95 talon esi and it had the 420a motor. Not sure which "early 2g" models came with the 4g63 n/t motor.

That i didnt know either. I know it came in Hyundai's like i stated earlier. Actually getting the Hyundai 2.2 or 2.4L cam was a step up for the 4g63t. I did it and didnt notice anything but it was supposedly a better cam.

420a is from 95-99 non-turbo. I was a DSMer for over 6 years. Just sold my 95 gsx this past feb and still miss it The 4g63 in the non-turbo 1g's has a little bit of a higher compression. Throw a turbo on it!

Neons never had the 4G63 (at least not without some creative work with a Sawzall and welder), but there were a few '80s era Dodge pickups that had a SOHC version of the 4G63. I've got one of these trucks myself, and yes, I'm planning to drop the turbo DOHC version in there once I can find the time.

I would personally just find a 4g63t motor and throw that in there. Gonna probably have to switch out the fuel pump, sensors and some more. I'm not sure on all specifics but dsmtuners.com is a awesome site for info on anything for that car.
