Power differences in the various BAMA tunes?

I was wondering what kind of data you guys had on the power output differences of the Street/performance/race tunes. And the differences between the 87 and 93 tunes.

* Street (87-93 octane) - the street tune is designed as a daily driver program that focuses in on increasing mid-range power. It does give up a few HP at higher RPMs, but that's why there is a Performance file. Automatic vehicles are further enhanced by making adjustments to the transmission's shift points and firmness.
* Performance (87-93 octane) - The Performance program is designed to add power at 3000 RPMs and higher, focusing more on the top end horsepower and all out performance driving. Timing, fuel and throttle response settings are slightly more aggressive than the street tune. This is a great track tune but also works well for daily drivers that are looking for a little more "get up and go" than the street tune. The automatic transmission settings are the same as in the street tune.
* Race (91 - 93 octane) - The race tune will ensure the largest increase in vehicle performance. Using the highest grade of fuel available in your area is mandatory. This file is designed for "Race only Use" as the timing, fuel, and throttle response settings are very aggressive. In fact, the adjustments are so aggressive, that we do not recommend it for daily driving as it may cause your vehicle to try to jump out from a stop and easily spin the tires. Finally, with the automatics, we implement entirely new shift points and firmness settings to further enhance the all-out performance of the vehicle.

As far as performance numbers, depending upon where you live and what octane you are running, you can expect up to 20+ hp on the race tune, about 3-5 less than that on a performance tune and 5-10 hp less than that on a street tune.

So, 10-15+hp on street, 15-18 on performance and up to 20+ on the race tune.

I didnt notice much of a difference in feel between Street and Performance, BUT, I am definitely getting more wheelspin and the 1-2-3 shifts yeild even more spin.

So the difference is definitely there

Should I start running 89 and get 89 tunes? I have been running 87, but 89 is only 5 cents more (4 at some stations).

Would 89 tunes be good for a couple more HP? Or is there only really a difference from 87 to 93?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

No, you will not hurt anything at all by not being "dyno-tuned."
Our tunes are 99.9% as close to what you would get out of having the car tuned on the dyno, so you are VERY safe going WOT on our tunes!

Yes, you would see about 3-5 horsepower difference in going from the 87 to 89 octane. It's very minimal, but definitely there. It is similar to having a 150lb passenger in the car, or not.

I need to call BAMA tomorrow, the 89 octane Performance tune has a problem shifting at WOT, basically, it doesnt. It also seems to shift weird (almost like it doesnt want to) at part throttle as well.

Im sure it will be an easy fix, hopefully a fast one. I havent tried the 89 Street yet, I am figuring its probably more of the same.

Ok so I think I figured out the problem.

There seems to be a rev limited around 5700ish. If I am CLOSE to wot, but not quite there, maybe 3/4 pedal, it shifts just before that. If I go past about 3/4 pedal, it hits a rev limited around 5700 or so.

I dont know where it should be set, but looking at the strategy tunes in the device, the rev limit drv is set to 6800, I assume the BAMA one should be set to 6800 as well, so I am going to set it to 6200 for now, and call BAMA in a little bit to confirm if it should be at 6800.

sorry for the delay in getting back to you. In the future, please PM me for the fastest response.

Your rev-limiter should be at 6800, as all manual and automatic trans 3Vs are set there. If your tune is not set there, you can either adjust that option manually in the tune or have a new tune file written.

If you would like a new tune file written, please get a new tune here:
Bama Tune Files (Free Tunes for Life Members Only) at AmericanMuscle.com

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions in the future!
