CS Valence w/ fogs on a GT with existing fogs

So I bought the CS valance ( Mustang BOSS/CS Style Lower Front Fascia w/ Foglights (10-12 GT) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! ) thinking it'd be a simple swap but the more I look and read it's not as simple as I thought. I can't just daisy chain the new CS fogs into the existing fogs without some kind of relay set-up from what I've read.

Does AM sell a wire harness kit to make this valence work with the existing fogs as shown in the pictures? I really want all 4 fogs to work off the factory switch if at all possible.

Thanks

A second option I'm considering is using the wiring harness from Blue Oval Industries 2005-2012 Mustang & 2003-2004 Cobra Fog Light Wiring Harness and Switch - Fog Lights - 2005-2009 - Lighting - Home for your Ford Mustang to run my existing factory fogs in the grill and then use the factory wiring to independantly run the valance fogs.

Anyone see any reason why this wouldn't work? Anyone have better ideas?

Hey, thanks for the inquiry!

I have the same sort of issue on my daily driver. I have factory foglights which are controlled by the headlight-stalk. I have 8 other lights I'm adding(2 sets of 4" PIAA 510s, 1 set of 6" PIAA 520s and 1 set of PIAA Cross Country HIDs) and they all have their own separate switches/wiring harnesses. I spent the night last night wiring in 4 separate wiring harness, all with their own fuses/switches included. It was safe/easy and they work great! The best part is that I can run each set of lights independently or altogether. This would not be possible with one switch; either all on or none on.

The best thing to do would be to get a separate wiring harness and switch, altogether. This will allow you to operate them independently or together, all while being safely fused/switched so your car doesn't burn to the ground.

The only thing there is that you may need to graft the two harnesses together at somepoint, unless you are able to run of a different switched/fused source. All 4 of my harnesses meet at the 15A lighting fuse in my fusebox and I'm currently looking for a way to separate them in two sets of 2 or all 4 to their own fused/switched source.

Good luck!

Let me know if you have any questions in the future!

what did you guys end up doing here? I just got my cs front from santa and figured I would just find a way to splice the it in. Wish I would have known about the issue before hand.

I went with that wiring harness from the link above. It comes with everything you need, just use a multimeter to ensure you wire things up properly and you'll be good.

Thanks for chiming-in with what worked for you, BTR! Running them independently is the best choice as it will allow you to put them on/turn them off individually as you please. Furthermore, it's normally safer to run the foglights on separate switches and fuses. This will prevent any unwanted power-surges or fried electrical circuits.

Buying the extra switch will make it much easier in the long-run, so that's definitely the way I would go! I hope this helps! Good luck!

I was a little miffed I that made this purchas as it was not clearly stated that with the cs font it would require deleting the the factory fogs. I wanted to use the cs fogs in conjunction with the factory fogs. It appeared that I would not be able to do this with out a relay.

How-ever after taking in to consideration the wire size that seemed to be 18 guage (this should be good for 16 amps) and the total watts used by all the lights I would be right at the limit for the 15 amp light circuit. The amperage is figured by taking the watts divided by the voltage.

side markers 3.8w x 2 = 7.6w
factory fogs 42w x 2 = 84w
cs fogs 55w x 2 = 110w
total watts = 201.6

Total watts divided by 13.8v (average alternator output) comes to 14.6 amps
Total watts divided by 12.7v (actual battery output) would be 15.87 amps

With this in mind I figured that the wire should support the load, worst case I might blow a fuse and could up the fuse if needed. I decided to give it a try by using some tap connectors from the extention and from the factory plugs. I then connected the wires from the taps making sure not to cross phase the wires. This would leave all the plugs intact should I ever decide to install a roush or other grill, all I would have to do is remove the tap connectors and in plug the factory style connections. As it is now the top portion of the extention is not used and just taped over.

Here is a very good DIY on how to install the cs front. This was much better than the instructions that come with the kit IMO.

Thus far all is well. No issues with blown fuses or burnt up wires. The 15a fuse held and all the light are working off the factory switch. I'm not sure if this would work if you were to have some after market subs or other items that would drop your voltage. The lower your voltage the higher your amperage and visa versa, so keep that in mind. In other words if your voltage was to drop below normal for some reason your amperage would go up and could blow the fuse.

I should mention that quality tap connectors should be used. I originally used some that did not make continuity and had to replace all 8 of them (its a good idea to check continuity prior to the final connection). The new tails could be put together an assortment of ways, I just left them a little long and used a push in style connector.

I thought it would be worth noting that this mod can be done with out a relay or burning up your car running all the lights on the same circuit. It does max out the circuit so you would not be able to change the bulbs to a higher watt bulbs. For those who do not have a big draw off the battery that would lower the voltage this may be an option for you.

From what I understand this may not be legal to hook up the lights in this fashion. I guess in some states you can not run more than 4 forward facing lights. If you were to get a fix it ticket it would only take the removal of the radiator cover to quickly convert the fogs to use just the lower cs fogs by seperating the wires that come from the taps.

That's a great write-up! Thank you for taking the time to post it! Have you submitted an installation guide for GT/CS valence on our website, yet? If not, you should! We pay good money for them! Check this out: Mustang Installation Guide Submission Instructions - Free Shipping! and if you have pictures/want to make a good write-up we can pay you up to $200 for your time!

I'm terribly sorry that it didn't arrive/install in the manner you were hoping for, but I'm glad you were able to get it figured out! My daily-driver has 8 foglights and two sets of high-beams:

and as of yet, I haven't been stopped/questioned about it in PA(knocks on wood). As far as I've seen/experienced, they mostly only stop SUVs/trucks/pickups with more than 4 forward facing lights. However, your fix for getting around the ticket seems like it'd work just fine.

Thanks again! Please PM me directly if you have any questions/input on this installation in the future! Have a wonderful New Year!

Thanks Chris! I didn't take any pics due to the fact that this set up would not be for every one and probably not one that you would want to suggest as a vendor. Good stuff for forum info though. I'll keep your suggestions in mind for my next projects.

Another note for California residents. Dmv section 24405 states no more than 4 forward facing lights.at any one time. How ever sub section 3 states that each pair of a dual head lamp systems shall be considered one lamp.

So we should have no issues here in CA!
