hey guys i blew my passenger speaker in the front and i was thinking about upgrading the front speakers. i did some research and all i could make sense of is that they are 6x8 speakers. now what i dont understand is are they component speakers or not? what all would i need to upgrade my speakers. will i need better amps, a 6x8 to 6 1/2 inch adapter, component speakers, any wiring, etc.. etc.. please help me figure this out i would like to buy some asap. any speakers you guys have that you would recommend? also i should probably add that i do have an after market head unit which there is a link of on the bottom and my stock system is the mach 460.

stock speakers are not component speakers. If you get better speakers, an amp is not required. However, depending on the wattage, an amp will definately make them sound better. But before you buy anything, what kind of sound are you looking for?

Should be 6x8's all the way around: front and back. They aren't components but components will fit with some modification. You'll have to find a place to mount the crossover and if you don't already have tweeters or wiring for them in place you will have to run that too. Some components come with adapters to mount them in a 6x8 hole but if yours don't they aren't terribly difficult to get a hold of.

alright, well... mach 460 same system i have in mine, yes there are 6x8's in the doors and you probably have the smaller 2 inch speaker in the top corner of your door correct? well in actuality the smaller speaker is the real speaker for vocals the 6x8 is really more of a midbass speaker kind of acts more as a small sub, but if you want to upgrade to aftermarket components you should get 5 and 1/4 inch speakers not 6 and halfs because 6x8s are actually 5x7's same size speaker i know its dumb and confusing but true

yea i do have the stock tweeters mounted up on the door by the vents. can i leave those there and just switch the tweeter inside with the new one im gonna get?

by the way i was reading about the crossover that comes with them. do we have a stock crossover or do we need to use it. im guessing since are cars came stock with the mach 460 and those are components that we have, no crossover is needed... i can just switch the current wiring to the new tweeter/speaker....correct me if im wrong.

yes you can switch the current wiring to the new tweeter/speaker. but it's up to you if the sound you are getting from your new installed speakers is what you really wanted..
