Ipod/Aux input mach460

last year i had made a couple threads asking about integrating a ipod to the factory mach 460 stereo in my 03 gt. no one seamed to have any answers about anything so this post is to tell what i used for reference for people seeking a solution other than a new head unit.

what i ended up going with was the metra axxess AIPFD20ID.

This adapter plugs directly into the back of the factory cd player and you connect power and thats it. you have a 1/8" in and an ipod input that will charge and play at the same time. supposedly you will be able to control the ipod from the stereo but i haven't figured out how as i don't like my ipod constantly on a charger. on top of this you do still retain the in dash 6cd changer functionality, which the kit says does not function with it. overall the sound quality is very good, a little lower volume than the cd, but not by much, you can still get the sound very loud. i would recommend this to anyone who doesn't want a new head unit.

Haha I don't know how I left that out. The kit is anywhere between $50 & $100 depending where you go. Pepboys has it around $60 and circuit city had it, if your lucky and they still do it's under $20 since thier liquidating everything. Online you can fine it cheap as well.

"Source" if its an aftermarket. "Aux, Aux/Sat, or Sat" for factory radios

^^^ were talking factory on 460 so no aux button. It selects from the cd button and you select iPod or 1/8 aux through track select, 1 being 1/8, 2 ipod. Only downside is it defaults to iPod so of you use aux mainly you have to tell it track one whenever you turn it on overall not a big deal though.

you select the ipod how you select cd. press cd once its cd, again is ipod. if you want to switch between the 1/8 in and ipod in, you use the seek buttons like changing tracks on a cd, track one 1/8, track 2 ipod. when you turn off the car and turn it back on, it defaults to track 2 so you just seek back to 1. that make more sense?

Dan... Ok... I went out to my car and checked out what you said about pressing the CD button twice.. It just kept going from CD to Radio... Will that feature only be enabled if the plug for the adaptor for the Ipod is pluged into the back of the stock 460 head unit? Im going to pull the stock radio out next week and look at it... but with the stock wiring harneses all pluged in there is an empty slot to recieve the Ipod adaptor u showed me... Right?....

no there is not an empty slot, you do unplug something from the back of it. there are wires there from the factory but removing them you dont loose any functions of the head unit. there's only one place it fits, you unplug it and plug it in there. once on this unit tells the head that theres something else on the cd button.

Glad I could help. I know if someone had already tested this I'd have gotten it sooner and that was my purpose in this thread, so other people don't have to search for themselfs and not know what works.

Awesome man!! I just ordered one online, hope it gets here in a few days and I can try it out. I was searching for something but didn't know for sure if my car's stock radio/cd player had any hook ups. Thanks for the help, can't wait to have some good music in the stang!!!

Edit - I found it for $5 online plus $4 for shipping, so just passing on a good deal for anyone that is interested. I've never bought anything from them, but for less than $9 I was willing to give it a shot, will update when I get it.
