01 mach 460 add radio and amp/sub
doing a radio install on an 01 mustang with the mach 460 sound system, i have the correct harness for this particular sound system to add an aftermarket HU the head unit only has on pair of pre-outs and the harness for this car has rca jacks on it to power the factory amps, but also needed another pair of pre outs to hook up the aftermarket amp/sub, so i used y-splitter cables and got it all hooked up, but now the subs are not hitting at all like they did before witht the stock head unit. What is the problem?? ive set all the settings on the radio like they need to be and have the amp up enough and the sub setting on the radio up enough, its like the sub is getting a high pass signal

its a jvc KD-R300 it says that the one pair can either be rear or selectable sub out, so maybe thats not gona work with the y-cables im not sure, but im sure you know that with the mach 460 you have to have the rca's from that harness to plug into the radio to power the factory amps, but also need the aftermarket amp to power the sub, should i go back to the line out converter at the rear speakers to make sure and catch the low pass signal? or should i just say screw the factory amps and not hook those rca's up just hook the rca's for the aftermarket amp/sub b/c the factory amps just power the 5x7 door speakers which are more or less subs, just not sure if the sound will be as good without them???

on the 01 & UP there should be 2 harness that came in the pack. one that has power and the speaker wire and another that has blue/white wire and black/white wire along with rca's on it. these need to be hooked up to your sub output. also you need to go into your settings and make sure that you switched from rear out put to sub output. as this sounds like where your problem is occuring. if you want you can either run your own LO converter from your rear speakers to give a signal to your aftermarket amp or you can split if off so that it feeds both the stock 460 subs and your aftermarket. If you do the y splitters you have to be careful cause if you turn up the sub level remember that it will effect both the factory and aftermarket subs. you can potentially blow out your factory sub

thats correct, i have the right harness metra 70-5519 and ive got it all hooked up right and i am using the y-splitters since only has one pair of pre-outs, which can be set to rear or sub, and ive tryed both settings on the radio and neither will get my sub to hit right, i previously did have it hooked to a LO at the rear speaker on the factory radio and the sub hit great, so you think i need to go back to that?

alright i just got done hookin up the aftermarket amp to the LOC at the rear speaker it all sounds good now, i couldnt get the head unit pre-outs to make the sub work hardly at all even when i didnt use the splitters just directly plugged the aftermarket rca's to the head unit and set the radio settings to sub out but oh well it all sounds good now, thanks for the input
