Zatrekaz's Custom Subwoofer Box & Amp Rack

The next project is at hand: A Customer Subwoofer Box.

Thanks to everyone here that has helped me so far in learning what I needed to know to start this.

I plan to copy a design I found on Ebay that has the subs in a sealed box facing backwards out the trunk. This design also has a "flush" look that makes it look seamless inside the trunk.

I am also going to be incorperating an Amp rack into this. However I have not decided on where yet.

My goal for the project is to stay under $100 in total cost.

5/17/09 Update:

Started tearing apart the old box today to get my subs out. I also cleaned the underside of the carpet, and plan to clean inside the trunk really well tomorrow and begin my mesurements...

I leave you for now with pics of DESTRUCTION!

Way to take that box out gently, neatly, and cleanly...

Haha, there was no other way. The only way to get that thing in and out was through the back seat which, as you can see, is now blocked.

I just hope I can build this box big enough for the internal volume, yet small enough to fit through the trunk.

The only place I can find MDF Board is Lowes.. and this is the link:

3/4X49X97" MDF

Coming in at 3/4" x 4ft x 8ft for $25 each.

Hopefully I can make a full box from one sheet... gonna get the sizes I need and get Lowes to cut it when I buy it.

Will prolly call them tomorrow and ask. I am being very evil and talking to the makers of the box I want to build asking for dimensions. I used the excuse of having an amp rack I custom made that I want to be sure works with it

Any suggestions? Surely a dual chamber sealed box with 1 cubic foot per chamber could fit. That is a small chamber.

It is going to be one large chamber with a seperator in the middle. Each section will be 1.0, so a total of 2.0

Ford Mustang Subwoofer Box

That is the design I am building. I am contacting them tomorrow to get the dimensions of the box. The current design is 0.80ft^3 per chamber. That is only 0.20ft^3 from what I need it to be, so I can just add a few inches on on the sides of each chamber to reach 2ft^3 total.

The current design can also be installed from the trunk opening. I will also confirm this when I call them.

$109 plus $40 shipping = $150 (rounded)

Custom is around $50-$60

That is why I am doing it myself. Plus the internal volume of that box is a tad low for my subs.
