Help with Sub woofer

High guys, I am currently tearing the interior from my car to replace the carpet and I figured while I had it out to replace the factory stereo with something better. I have a Kenwood HU with a Kenwood 250w 2 channel amp and a MTX 2 channel amp, plans are for 6 1/2 eclipse speakers in the doors and 6x9 eclipses in boxes for the rear floor. My question is about a sub or subs. I don't really want that rattling bass I want more of a hard punch, what do you suggest as far as boxes, would I be better with 1 or 2 subs and what size. Someone told me I need two smaller subs pointing down. My car is a 87 convertible also. Any pics of some of your stuff in the same type car would be GREAT. THANKS Jerry.

well i'm putting 2 8" RF in the Silver 2000. and that sounds pretty good.

I'd prolly go with two tens if the enclosure wasn't as fancy as it is.

I agree. In contrast, I like the deep highly amplified bass (I'm 21..) But for a solid speaker than can give you a nice bass tone and accompany the mids as well 1 10" sub in the 200 Watt RMS range should do fine.

i would go with a single 10" mtx thunder 4500 series sub, and hook it up with the kenwod amp. my dad had a similar set up in an f-body and the rattle was minumal. dynamat around your front eclipse speakers, cuz they will rattle on the door . to fix that just get a dynamat door speaker kit. they are $25 at circuit city. its worth the investment..

I had 2 RF punch power dvc's on a 400.2 RF amp.....I HAD a small crack in my front window when i put it in. NOw the window has more crack in it than inner city chicago! I just finished gutting it though to get ready to tub the rear end and build mt roll cage though. I have an 87 GT also.
Two 8" s or one 10" will do you more than fine if they are good subs ( RF,MTX,JL,etc) and a 250-300 watt amp ( not a friggen Jensen or Dual amp though, a REAL amp that actually puts out the power it says it will)
