also wanted to know if i had to take out both units just to get full control through one i figured the tape deck had everything plugged up through it so i didnt need to take out the cd player.

get a harness, it will make your life so much easier. you can then buy a pocket to fill in the gap of your tape player or cd player wherever you decide to put it. when you get the harness just match color for color and your good to go.

you should have a rectangular one that is gray, which is your power side, and then you should have a long elongated black square plug right?

has anyone installed a stereo in a 2000 mustang and can tell me which set of wires are the speakers thats all i need to know is were the speaker wires are really appriciate it.

edit* i have the double din and there was a long grey plug then there was a square shaped black one on the same side of the tape deck then on the cd player they was a small rectangle connector and a smaller of the same square like connector there was also a square connector from the cd player i think to the tape deck.

i dont think that on the 2000 that there was a double din radio. You should have a tape player up top and then a cd player at the bottom. Once you take out the decks and look inside you should see an amp at the bottom on the floor board, on the right of the amp there is a plug unplug it and go to best buy or circuit and as for a ford 5514 premium sound harness it will come with a gray rectanbular harness (which you will use for your power side), a elongated black square plug (speaker side but you will not be using it) and then another speaker adapter that has two female ends on it (this harness you will be matching up to the harness that you pulled off of the amp inside the center console and on the floor board, underneath the radios that you pulled out) you should be using the larger plug end and just cut it about half way between both ends. Wire it up to the harness from your radio and your good to go.
