The Infamous "Cluster-Swap" Question...

Ok, before we start, yes I searched and nothing. Now here's the info I have...

I know people who wanted to swap clusters can do it (it's just plug and play) but PATS has to be disabled. OR, I know with bullit clusters and 99-04 GT guys, can just swap their PATS switch board onto the back of the cluster they're going to use and it'll work. But here's my question...I know I can put an 03/04 Cobra cluster in my 01, but I'll have to disable PATS. I really would like to avoid disabling PATS if possible and I'm almost positive you can't just switch the boards like I stated above with the 99-04 GT guys can. Is there a way to put the 03/04 cluster in my 01 w/o disabling PATS? Also, will it retain my current mileage? (I thought the mileage traveled with the cluster)

the mileage will stay with the cluster. not 100% sure on the pats issue.

Shouldn't Ford technically be able to swap clusters though and mate the mileage to the new one?
