rewiring speed control buttons on steering wheel

i have an 06 and the speed control buttons on the steering wheel are useless to me. they would be of more use if they were controls for my stereo. is there a way of rewiring those buttons so that i could use it for my stereo. like the on/off button and the -/+ button for the volume.
