pop sound when I turn on a/m head unit
I have an 00 gt... has the Mach 460 stereo and a Mach 1000 upgrade. I removed the mach cd player and cassette decks and did a DD conversion. I have installed a kenwood DD h/u and every time I turn it on there is a chirp / pop sound... ( I can unplud the speakers from the h/u and it still makes that sound when the amps power up... ) Would that be a bad highs amp?? (The one under the radio??) Thanks... (I have the metra kit that does not have RCA hookups... the one with the RCA hookups would not plug into my wiring harness... ) I bought the kit from Best Buy... Should it have had RCA Connectorson the )) kit... (They gave me an 01-04 kit the first time and it ould not plug in to the speaker harness...) Thanks in advance...

the one that you are looking for is the 70-5510. it is the same exact harness except that it uses RCA connections to control the amps. the problem that you are having is that the amps are still sending a "residual" signal back to the h/u which will then send it through the speakers after shut down. you can either put a switch inline or you can just go back to best buy or radioshack and get a 1 amp diode and place it inline with the remote turn on wire. it will be a little black thing that has a stripe on it (cathode), what this does is to allow direction one way and not back. make sure that the cathode faces away from the source (radio). this will solve your problem

Thanks... after installing the diode should I also change the speaker harness to one with the RCA connector?? I was also going to try and hook the mach amps to the sub out on my h/u. Thanks...

you can get the rca connectors if you want. on 94-00 they are supposed to plug into the front/rear RCA pre-outs on the back of the deck, not the sub out like the 01-up.

Ok, I just got in the correct wiring kit... Going to try and get it in this week... (I tried the diode in the remote wire and no luck... it still pops...) But I am going to try it again with the new wiring harness... I'll do pics and a write up...

Mine is doing this also. Tried the diode and still does it (and have the rca harness). Any other ideas?

Well the rca is to amp, and amp goes to speakers. Im just throwing out ideas, if your's does it without rca that means its the amp being fubar'd and one of the wires is giving feedback to speakers... Hopefully wraith comes back
hes been mia since weekend!

I would really like a fix to this as well.
I get that pop with my new head unit and it scares the shit out of anyone that gets in the car. |

sorry guys that i havent been on in a bit, my laptop with all my electronic stuff took a crash on me so I have to wait until i get it back and I am resorted to answering through my work computer. I have to see what else will work as ive always used diodes with no problems but there may be something new with the radio's now or something... I will get it figured out for you guys here soon, so if you can please be a little patient or if you find something that may work just let me know and I can try and help you out.

Np wraith
Also makes the noise regardless of volume level (and same loudness). I also tried using the fade to put it all to the rear, and the front's still make pop noise on start up.

just want to make sure that everything is covered. You guys did make sure to connect those Black/White wires (amp ground) to ground correct? Also I may have a fix for the problems but need to know what exact head units you have so that I can get with my buddy about it. He has also noticed this as more of an occurence on alot of the newer headunits and has effectively eliminated the problem so I will be getting with him to see what we have to do to alleviate this problem.

alpine cda-105. Ground harness? Like the 2 wires that hooked into the back of both decks? I thought that was the ground for the deck cases. Or was that to ground the amp? Cause all i did was splice the wires for the car harness that fits into the radio one.
