Need Electrical HELP!!!
Here is the problem I am having.....I had a Viper 771 alarm put on my 2001 GT then it started to act up. I was driving one day and the car just shut off on me and I had NO electrical power. I coulndt even put the windows up. Took the battery and alternator to get tested and both are good. The next problem I have now is my trunk wont open with the button on the remote or the one in the glove box.
I then took the car back to get the alarm checked out and the guy said he doesnt think its the alarm. He trouble shot the wohle alarm system very well. He took the alarm out cause he said Ford would work on it with the alarm in it. He also showed me that my car is pulling 2Amps from the battery when its parked with the car turned off. What could be my problem? |

if your battery is only reading 2 volts with the engine off then it is your battery! It should read 12volts with the car off and about 13-14.4 volts running which means that your alternator is putting out to the battery. Who did you get to check your battery cause I would not go to them again. Also, was your 771 installed by a professional? The reason why I ask is cause if it was installed by a professional then ford wouldnt have a problem with checking it cause it was done professionally. Im an installer and know these things, also check fuses if not done professionally.

It is pulling 2mA not 2 Amps. We disconnected the negative cable and put a multimeter inbetween and thats how we got the 2mA. Yes I did get it done professionally. I wanted the lifetime warranty or else I could of gotten it way cheaper. The battery is fine and the alternator. Ford mechanic said it would be easier if it was out cause that would eliminate it as a possible problem.

well thats good that you got it done professionally, but if the batt. is good and you put a multi-meter to it you must have had it on the wrong setting cause it should read 12 volts if it is good.

he said" it was pulling 2 milliampers" not 2 volts u putz! volts and amps are to different things! 1000 volts at 2milliampers wont kill you but 1000 volts at 2 amps will. As far as what could be pulling from the battery with the key off, well it could be so many things it isnt funny. I couldnt even begin to try and tell you what to start with. YOu made the right choice to give it back to FOMOCO and let them figure it out as they have the right equipment to track the problem down. Good luck bro

my dads truck did some things like that.. he had a viper, too.. some times when he cranked up, and started to move, it would cut off.. one time he went to leave for work (3ish am) and he unlocked the doors, opened the door and then the alarm went off like a mafugga.. nothing was working and it was loud as hell.. we eventually disco'd the battery.. but the moment wed hook it back up, there went the early morning wake up call for our neighborhood.. he had to call a technician to tell him how to override it long enough to get to the dealership to have it removed..

Did you get it fixed? If it is cutting off while you are driving then they either didnt get the right brake wire to cut off the system when you drive or they really fucked something up.

what I did was left the shit out for two weeks now. (good thing I own enough firearms, you never know who wants your toys) ever since I did that ive had no problems. so i will be getting a new alarm and rewired and installed again at no cost. im glad dei has that lifetime warranty.
