Radio backlight doesnt work?

Well I find it an odd problem and I am trying to pinpoint a solution rather than buying a new head unit. Well I have some aftermarket Alpine head unit that came with the car, the display works its just the backlight for ONLY the display doesnt. Do those bulbs go out? Could there be a seperate wire just for that? I find it kind of odd that only that light doesnt work when the buttons light up on the radio. Also sometimes when I turn the volume knob down the volume goes up and vice versa and sometimes I works normally... Any ideas?

Its not still under warranty, this head unit looks old lol (in terms of electronics) I can't even find the model number on it anywhere and I looked good. I guess I am in the market for a new head unit, I don't need anything fancy or big just something basic. And the guy at an auto sound store told me if I get another alpine head unit which is what I have now, I wouldn't need the new harness and it would most likely just be a plug and play kind of situation. Is that true?

I was looking at this btw: Alpine CDE-100 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

Like I said I don't need anything fancy just something that lights up and I can plug my ipod or phone into it which this would allow me to do.

most of the time yes, the plugs will work so you just have to remove the old and install the new no wiring necessary

and thats not a bad HU and the price is pretty good, you could probably get one model up on ebay for about the same price if you wanted
