Select a car dvd monitor with high-level outputs; if you plan to add an amplifier later, choose a stereo that also has low-level outputs.

To get good quality, loud sound you need a good signal. The signal from the head unit isnt the best. To get a good signal for loud, clean sound you want to run external amps. I powered some crappy 6.5" speakers I got $30 off an amp an they sounded great. Certainly not the best but they were plenty loud and the sound was clean and crisp even at full blast, not that i ever needed it there, since I dont like making my ears bleed.

Off the topic a little bit..sorry..should you over power or under power your speakers?

If the speakers are 65rms @ 4ohm, would an amp rated at 50rms @ 4ohm work?

Mangogirl, your not over powering the speakers but your leaving something to be desired on the table. Sounds like these are small speakers from the rating, if they were bigger, heavier speakers, like subs, under powering them could hurt the performance more if the speaker doesnt move enough. With your speaker, 6.5"? It shouldnt hurt much.

Yeah, the speakers are 6x8 Rockfords. I have RF components that are 100rms and a RF amp rated to the exact tee as well as with some RF subs matched with an RF amp matched perfect.

My components are nice and loud but my RF subs are rated 500rms each and still the bass is loud so I want to make my door and rear speakers louder..lol.

I put lower rated speakers in my door & rear because I had components in some custom kick panels.

I don't have the RF amp yet for my door/rear speakers...but the only amp I can find by RF have 50rms @ 4 ohms. I want to match them perfect..maybe I should keep looking to find the perfect amp.

Could I use this? Just to power the 4 speakers. It's rated 10rms over the speakers.

Finding an exact match on advertised RMS is unlikely. You want to get as close as possible though and preferably with manufactures that are accurate on their ratings.

Youll be safer being under rather than over the rating. Like a said, unless your dealing with subs I wouldnt worry bout being under slightly. RF is a good amp for the money.

SSS,

Although it will be more than your budget, I've heard this system in at least 5 different cars and it sounded pretty damn good in all of them. Not audiophile but very good SQ and SPL for the money!

Alpine CDA-117/Head Unit - $349.95
Alpine PDX-5/5 channel Power Amp - $599.95
Alpine PXA-H100 Imprint Audio Processor - $149.95
Alpine SPR-60 6 1/2" Coax 2 way speakers - $179.95/pr
Image Dynamics IDQ10 D4 10" subwoofers - $219.99 each(I'd go with 2)

Total - $1,719.78 plus tax

If you can mount the SPR-60's in your kick panel instead of your door it would be good. If you can find an aftermarket kick panel that angles the speaker towards the dome light even better. If you really want to get tricky and budget permits you could run the SPR-60C which is the same as the SPR-60 but the tweeter is separate. If they fit you could place the tweeters in the stock spot where the mirrors are attached to.

If you have the room I would mount the subs in your rear package tray firing at your back glass with an enclosed box for each one.

Just as important as all the other components is WIRING! Forget all that cheesy, chinese bullshit like monster cable and the such. Pure trash. Go to a professional audio store if you have one in your area or, if not, online and try and find a roll of either Canare or Mogambi cable. This is the same stuff they use in TV studios and most all other professional audio applications. Best part is it's actually CHEAPER than the chinese crap. The only part that will need to be shielded are the cables going from pre-amp outs to the amp itself.

After all is said and done for components only, including wiring, you're going to drop about $2k but you will have one BADASS sounding system!!

This is the system going into my Nova build:

Highs and Mids - Image Dynamics Pro Full Size Horn Loaded Compression Drivers under the dash
Mid Bass - 18sound NMB420 8" or B & C 8NDL51 in the kick panels
Sub - Morel Ultimo SC10 10" in a sealed enclosure. I'll have 2 mounted on each side of the car firing into the back glass.
Head Unit - Pioneer DEX-P99Rs
Amplifier - JL Audio HD900/5

Still trying to figure out the best crossovers for my application.

John
