Car amplifier?

Hello there, new poster here. I stumbled across this site while browsing the net. I was hoping anyone out there with more knowledge and experience then me could help me out. I am trying to decide on what amplifier to buy for my subwoofers. I currently have a older RFP Punch 200 and it is not working right anymore. If I knew how or where to get it fixed I might try that first. Well I guess I have a few questions but I will stick to a couple here and then go from there.

First is about my current amp. It is hooked up right now and does work if I physically move and hold the RCA cords in a certain way but if I just let it sit it is non-working. It is not the RCA cord because I tried another pair. Any thoughts on what to do with this? Thanks

Also about a new amp. I am currently deciding between a Rockford Fosgate Punch 400.2 or a Punch 600.2. I would include the 500.2 but I figured I might as well get the 600.2 since it is only $20.00 more. Right now I have two older 12 inch Punch HE's (RFP3412) that have 400 watts Peak and 200 watts RMS. Also they are in a bandpass box. I really don't want to spend a lot of money and I can get either of these two brand new for a pretty good price (under $200). If anyone has thoughts I would be happy to hear them? If you have any suggestions feel free to volunteer them. I prefer Rockford Fosgate but will take suggestions of any sort.

Thanks for any help

Zo

dont get that old rockford fixed it would cost alot. The older rockford amps are notorious for the soders for the RCA connection inside to go bad. As far as the amps that you listed I would get the 600.2.

Are you telling me to shut up? He asked for my opinion and advice and I gave it to him. For one the solders points for the older rockfords that came out about the same time as his HE sub are hard to get to because they are actually underneath the RCA's. The best place to get it once you open up the amp you would have to take out about 35 screws holding the board down to the heat sync. Along the internal wall of that amp Rockford decided to permanently parts of the board to it to help decipate heat better. I dont know what Rockford used to tie them into together but when me and some of my coworkers decided to take one apart, that a customer gave to us cause it was broke, we broke those pieces trying to get the board up so we could see what had happened. We thought that they just soldered it on but when we re-soldered it and then damn thing burned up. We contacted an rep of ours ar Rockford and they said that they use a mixture certain mixture of metals to give it better resistance and that we cant just resolder it on.
So in my opinion I would just get a new amp cause the new ones are alot more advanced then the older ones and alot smaller.
I am on here all the time giving information that they dont have access to that I do at my job so who the hell are you to tell me to shut up?

im sorry i shouldnt have been so rude but dude seriously if ur telling him that its a cold solder joint to throw the amp out fill up the land fill a little more. rockford amps are the best money can buy and a cold solder joint my grandma could fix. i stand with my statement. if it was put together you can take it apart just make sure u take it apart correctly and it wont fall apart. and u cant tell me the rca's cant be gotten to to solder. im sorry dude but throwing the amp out cuz u find it might be hard to disassemble would be like throwing out ur mustang cuz the heater core is hard to get at to replace.

I totally understand what you are talking about. No offense taken. Its just from my experience and from what rockford said is that those joints are hard as hell to get to. Ive gotten to them and fixed some up but they are just hard as hell to get to and you have to be careful to get to them. I just wouldnt recommend it to someone that doesnt know what they are doing. And yes Rockfords are good amps. You should check out there new line up. They stepped up their game alot!!!
