Head Unit Removal
Before I start I should say that this is not my first time removing a stereo and I've enlisted the help of another guy who's done at least 5 (granted he only had about 20 minutes on a lunch break).
I cannot get the stereo out of my 2000 V6 Mustang. I am using the DIN tools and a make-shift pair from coat hangers, but I can't get it to come out. I've got instructions from the internet that tell me to do exactly what I was doing, but it still won't work. I can't get either the cassette or CD player out. Did anyone have any issues with their's? Is there anything different that wouldn't be the same when doing a '97 Mustang or a '94 Ranger? I'm getting pissed and that is not helping the situation. Thanks for any tips. BTW, I did a quick seach on here but didn't find anything, so just redirect me if you have to.

I had a little trouble removing mine. But then I read a little about how to remove it and I wasn't applying outward pressure on the removal clips, after that it came right out.

I am applying outward pressure. On Thursday, I had the guy from work look at it again and he was able to get one side out (of the cassette player) but not the whole thing. Nothing budging on the CD player. I've read that you need to remove the CD player to remove the trim around it. Is that true or can you remove the trim before the CD player?

Honestly you can remove the ford radios with modified coat hangers, but it's a bitch sometimes. Go to Best Buy and for like $5 you can buy ford radio removal tools. You or a previous owner might of blown out the clips which is why you are having trouble, this is a common problem I see at work all the time. If they are blown out it will take some work to grab the clips. When you stick the ford keys in the holes, if you can't feel any spring like tension when you are lightly pressing outwards then either you didn't catch the clips or they are blown. If so just keep at it, eventually you'll get a hold of em or you will have to get a thin tool into the sides and try to pry out the radio.

i don't recommend beating the crap outta it to get it out...unless you plan on keeping whatever you put in there when you sell the car
