Need an alarm which one? Someone tryed to get in my mustang.

My buddy chased to guys who tried to get in my car last night with a slim jim. I have a 94 mustang and it had a factory alarm but the box was discoected becuase it malfunctioned one and the car would not start.

I dont know much about alarms and was wondering what the differences are? I would prefer to get something that would page me or call my cell phone if the alarm was going off.

Thanks

VIPER ALARMS. best $400 you'll spend, it has a remote so when the alarm goes off the remote pages you and shows you on the screen which part of the car set off the alarm

This is true. you can pick up a viper 791xv with remote start and 2way paging off ebay for around $250. Honestly even the $100 kinda no name alarms are still good too as long as they have good range and are 2-way paging systems. i had a pyle alarm on my old car before the stang and it worked just as well as the viper with all the same functions.

I also would definitely go with the Viper 791. Plus if you get it installed by a authorized dealer the unit has a lifetime warranty. Every one of the installers I work with has the 791, it really is a great unit. It does remote start, alarm, and keyless entry.

Viper 791

What kind of range will it go to let me know someone is breaking in my car?The reason I did not get my factory alarm fixed is becuase the dealer told me all they have to do is cross some wires and the alarm is useless. Im looking for something that will disable my car if it is activated. Do they have any that would call my cell phone or send me a text?

Thanks

I dont believe such a thing exists to my knowledge. closest you could get to that is a gps based system so if your car is stolen then it can be tracked but its still not going to tell you or text your phone if a breakin is occuring. as far as i know the 2 way paging systems is as good as it gets as far as notification that your alarm is going off. They're range is anywhere from 1,500-3,000ft usually. depends on obstructions and line of sight.

You can wire in a starter disable which the viper can do. if the alarm is going off or has gone off without being reset the starter will be inactive until reset by the remote. These can be wired in one of two ways. One option makes the car completely dead unless the unit has power and is in an unarmed state. this is good because even if someone tries to disconnect the battery or completely unplug the alarm module itself the car will still not start. your other option is to wire it passively so that it will work only when the alarm is getting power. If someone was to disconnect the alarm however in this case, then the car would be able to be started.

Can I get remote start on a stick shift? If so how does it start without pushing the clutch in? Im also looking at the Viper 3002. I still have the factory siren on the car could I have them wire it to the viper siren and the factory siren so it is twice as loud and maybe also wire it to the horn?

If I wire it to disable the starter (the more complicated one) What would they have to do to start my car lets say they had all the tools and time which proally wont happen just curious. Thanks for the info.

You can do a remote start on a stick. There is just a harness (electrical connection) at the clutch pedal somewhere. You just have to either disconnect it or jump the wires. The big downfall to that is if you left it in gear when you parked it and then remote started it, the car would jump of course. The higher end Viper alarms do have the option with the right accessory to do the GPS tracking. The vipers do have a horn honk option so that the siren and horn honk at the same time, this usually involves using a relay.

Yes i believe there is a negative output to activate the stock horn as well b but it will require a relay like ya said. To disable the clutch switch just disconnect the switch from the clutch pedal and jump the two wires.

and to answer your question on what it would take to get your car started with the starter disable installed is it would take an extensive knowledge of the vehicles electrical wiring in the ignition harness and it would take a long time! Unless they know exactly what they're doing and what wires to bypass and/or reconnect the chances of it happening in any reasonably short amount of time is slim to none. most car thiefs if they cant get a car to start right away and encounter a starter disable they are not going to wait around and try and figure out why it wont start. Not to mention if someone is dumb enough to try and steal a car do you really think they have the expertise to bypass a starter disable? maybe a professional car thief, if such a thing exists, would have that knowledge but they also wouldnt be stealing a v6 mustang lol.

Thanks for all the info. I am going to get one put in next week I am looking at the vipers, I dont need the GPS feature so would you reccomend the 791? I wish I would have known before that they made alarms that could actually stop someone from starting it.

you could just install some airhorns and set it to honk the horn when the alarm goes off then you could hear that thing from a mile away

97TunedMustang- You really know alot about alarms. If I wire the viper to take out the starter and I want to also wire a kill switch or 2, run one to the fuel pump where can I wire the other one.

Keep in mind someplaces I leave my car I could wire a full air raid siren tower to it and It wont matter no one is around to hear it lol

thanks-

just install a pressure sensor in the drivers seat that activates when the alarm goes off and wire that to some electrodes that shoot out of the seat into the person thats trying to steal your car's ass. that would electrocute them then have the james bond theme song play over the car's stereo. that would be f*ckin cool. just think about the story in the news paper lol.

you can get remote starters installed on stick shifts....but be sure to check your state law as in most states don't allow them (your car won't pass inspection if remote starts are installed on a stick shift car)....
