Yea the lights are legal. hid lighting comes already installed in a lot of newer/expensive cars nowadays. mercedes, bmw, nissan..etc. You can see one here like i ordered
As far as install goes its incredibly simple. everything plugs in only one way and no wiring of any kind. i have a 10k GP Thunder HID kit myself, you can see the difference in the color. ![]() ![]() ![]()

are the "temp" ratings for different brands consistent accross the board?
i ask becasue the post higher up which says it has 8k bulbs does look kinda blue but the ebay link in the second post has 8000 or 8500 and they look whiter. |

For the most part they are if your buying from a decent company. dont purchase teh cheaper kits and dont buy kits that have the ballast and ignitor as two seperate units. for the most part 8k is mostly white with a hint of blue 9500k is sky blue 10k is even more blue and 12k is purple. Higher the color temperature does not necessarily mean brighter. its my understanding technically speaking 8k produces the most visible light.

99mustang232 asked me to comment on this thread.
1. Yes, the HID kit is extremely simple to install. It took me no more than 10-15 minutes to complete. Only issue I ran into was where to mount the ballast on the driver's side because the battery is in the way. If I remember correctly, the wiring on the driver's side was simple as the color-coding was almost identical. However, the passenger side was different and I had to do a trial and error to see which connector to use. But don't worry, the connectors are plug and play...no splicing or anything like that. It can just as easily be removed with no indication you had an HID kit installed. 2. I went with the McCulloch HID kit not out of choice, but because a friend's sponsor got it for him for his car and it was the wrong model and just so happened to fit my car. The 99-04 Mustangs use the 9007 size/series bulb. I believe my kit retails for about $275-$325. 3. Bulb temperature of my kit is 8000K (or, 8000 Kelvin rating). You have different choices in the bulb from 3000K, 5300K, 6000K, 8000K, 10000K. The higher numerical ratings produce a more green-bluish color. However, the lower numbers actually produce a more intense and brighter light. I believe most HID kits on the higher-end vehicles are in the 5000-6000K range. I think the 8000K temperature is a perfect balance of just the right color and brightness (for me). 4. NOW BE CAREFUL!!! Most kits will remove the high beam function of your lights (as mine does). You'll have to pay more for a kit that retains the high/low beam function...typically over $400 to $450. But, my car is not my daily driver, so it doesn't matter to me.

good info -
btw whats the deal with something like this: it *says* xenon but they are just bulbs it says you replace the stockers with. i assume theres a catch (or some bs) since the 'real' kits like you said cost a few hundred bucks. edit: or does that just assume you "already have" the hid setup (aka not meant for just replacing any bulbs..) |

Its just them trying to market normal halogen aftermarket bulbs as something more then they are. nothing more and not really HID.
