Odometer help please!

Hey guys,
Out of the blue, my odometer, including the trip meter, stopped working in my '98 GT convertible. Any ideas on where to start looking for the problem? I could get the trip meter back to 0000, but it ain't rollin'! Thanks.

There's not a handy switch to flip out in the open somewhere?

Yeah, that's what I figured I'd have to do, was hoping to avoid ripping it out....

Speedo works fine, which I thought was weird.

if the speedo works fine still, then there is something internally wrong.. its not an electronic odometer right?

Mine just went out and I just ordered a new odometer gear kit. My speedo works too and I can reset the trip odometer just like you. I took my instrument cover off and looked at the back of the circuit board. Mine stopped working because the teeth weren't catching anymore.

Where did you order the gear set? I just bought a neat little '96 convertible with a broken gear set but the dealership will not sell me anything but a complete instrument cluster for $350 dollars! There is a TSB for this problem with a P/N but FORD says it is obsolete. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Squirrels - thanks for the reply, sorry it took me so long to get back on here. Is your odo working ok now? How long would it take me to take the cover off and install a new set of gears? It would be my first time tearing apart a dash.....

Umm, the website screwed up my order so I just received the part at home but I'm away in college now so I can't install it. It's actually pretty simple to take the dash apart. Just disconnect the negative cable from your battery, twist/pull the light switch out, and unscrew the torx screws you see and pull everything off as you go. There is a link for what to do when you actually get to the circuit board, but I'm having trouble finding it.

Thanks for all the help, popped her open today and yep, gear was a little messed up. Here's the cheapest gear I could find ($29 shippined), and came recommended by this site:

My worm gear was fine, won't have to replace it.
