Alpine Type R Subs, Need Help on Needed Amp(s)

I just picked up 2 ALPINE TYPE R SWR-1222D 12" 3000w CAR SUBS. Now I need to buy amp(s) to power them. I have no idea what to get. Thanks for the help.

Look for a mono amp. I power my Alpine Type X 10" subs with a Clarion 1500 watt unit. Here: Clicky

Stick with a well known name brand, and purchase as much wattage as you can afford.

I'm definitely not a pro on the subject, but wouldn't he need a 2-channel amp since he has 2 subs?

Nope. Mono amps can power multiple subs. You can power more than one speaker with one pair of speaker outputs. It's how you wire the speakers, either in series, or parallel, that determines the load, measured in ohms, on the amplifier. The lower you can get the ohm number, the higher the load on the amp, and the more it will output. You just have to ensure that you don't go below that amplifiers rated ohm stability number.

Not sure how to wire in series or parallel, or how to do the math to arrive at a given ohm number? Learn how here: OHMYLAWDY!

mono amp + a nice thick RCA cable that can withstand that much power =T cause if you got a good amp and good subs with a garbage rca cable it wont be able to use it at its peak . also make sure you get dynamat or itll sound dirty...

Yeah don't cheap out on wire. That's akin to building a powerful engine, and using a shitty fuel system for it.

Thats a common misconception. The RCA has nothing to do with power handling. at best it will need to carry 8v and thats if you have an excellent headunit. I've actually used the $2 bulk RCA's we get on high wattage subwoofer systems and noticed no loss in power or clarity over a set of good RCA's. It wont matter much if you run cheap RCA's on sub amps, it will, however, make a difference when you run a highs amp (interior speakers) with cheap RCA's as opposed to good ones.

Lemme see if I can explain this wiring for you... as you guys know, I suck as breaking stuff down, so here goes. When you wire paralell, you attach all the positives together and all the negatives together and basically pretind like you have one speaker. to find the ohms, you divide the number of ohms of the speaker by the number of speakers. for example, if you have two 8ohm speakers and you wire in paralell, you divide 8(number of ohms) by 2(number of speakers) and get 4. the end result would be a 4ohm load. When you wire in series, you add them together. if you hade the same two 8ohm speakers and you wired them in series, you would add the two together 8+8 and get a total ohm load of 16. when you wire in series, you take the positive of one speaker and attach it to the negative of the next, basically daisy chaining the speakers together. So in the end you would end up with the positive from one speaker going into the amp and the negative from the other speaker going into the amp.... if that makes no sense, that is the exact reason that I will never become a teacher.

Also, when looking for and amp, you want to match the RMS numbers form the speakers to the amp, don't try to match the peak numbers. And like zippie said, dont go cheap on the amp.. a lot of cheaper companies will over rate their amps and saw its pushing 1000w when in reality its only pushing 400w. Try to find amps with the CEA rating on them, all the good companies will have this, Alpine, Kicker, MMATS, JL, Rockford, and so on.
