If you're able to install it yourself, do it. it'll save you lots of money.

I think Pioneer is a good bang for your buck, not too sure though cus I've never heard a pioneer sub before.

i started out with one 12" audiobahn. it was pretty dang loud.
i wanted better sound quality & switched to two 10" sony black xplod's.
they sounded really good & had a kick as well.

try to do it yourself. use mdf & customize it to the needed volume specifications of your sub. getting a box to fit in the mustangs trunk is a trick though. on my second box, i designed it to slide in the from the inside with no clearance.

you can buy subs from wholesale factories or ebay, but i believe the best place to buy from is crutchfield.

If you're looking for some great sounding, high quality, hard hitting subs - Off brand ebay subs arent going to cut it. I've heard alot of subs & nothing compares to the name brands

Rocksford, Audiobahn, Kicker, Sony

A well built box can also make a huge difference.

Audiobahn and Sony don't belong on the same line as Rockford Fosgate and Kicker. Those two are basically wal*mart subs.

For under 400 with a deck is going to be a hard task.

Look on ebay for: kicker cvx's and hifnoics amplifiers

+1 to this.

Getting anything of good quality will be difficult for 400 bucks.

newb speaking: hate to disagree but sony and audiobahn both are on par with kicker and rockford. albeit their lower end stuff. you can make your car slam for right at 400.00 bones. will you be competing in sound offs? no. but it doesn't sound like thats what your after. sounds like you just want some basssssss. 9 outta 10 kids just waht the bass and dont care what the rest of the system sounds like. personally i have the exact same deck in my truck, no complaints. have also built entire systems from crap from wal-mart, that have hit harder than systems that have cost 2-3 times as much. if your on the cheap and arent lookin to enter it in shows, buy sony or pioneer. if your lookin to enter it sound offs or make a show car, then save your duckets, till you can go big.

Not sure where you live, but most of the shops around here always have buy one get one half off or free on alot of subs JL, Kicker, and so on. I'd check in with your local shops before you order something off the net. Just my $0.02

You just basically told him why not to take advice from you. I mean lets see who knows more about this TheUNippee (who has probably a show quality sq system if he entered his car) and Myself who just happened to compete in USACi or the "newb speaking" Not trying to start an argument but...

I don't know about the whole "wal-mart" system hitting harder in MOST cases. And I don't consider clipping an amp and distorting a sub "hitting" sure it "sounds loud" but its not good clean bass. And sony explode(<-) is nowhere with kicker or rockford. I just don't remember seeing too many xplode subs A.) making it out of the lanes in spl or B.) pulling up the be judged in SQ Point being I would rather not recomend something thats not going to sound good, and is going to blow a coil with 40% of its rated power. I don't know about you but I just hate having to go back to the audio store to get another sub.

Nice, i have that same headunit.

i am planning on getting 2 of these:
http://electronics.pricegrabber.com/...ers/m/6620348/

The Alpine Type-R. I have heard GREAT things about them. Everyone says they're really good. And only like 125 bucks for one (including shipping) you can't go wrong. Amps you can find online.. i got a 600 watt tornado for 80 bucks at this ghetto shop that my friend knew about (after some bargaining). You may want more than that but i dunno. Keep in mind, that 600 watt powered 2 subs (cheaper than the alpines but still subs) and it still banged.

So if you want a good amp.. probably 100 dollars, plus 125 for the sub. Enclosures come pretty cheap (may need custom to fit in your trunk) maybe like 25 or 50 top.

So that's like 275 plus the install. I got mine installed (in my explorer) for like 50 dollars. It was cheaper because my friend did it. I would expect maybe 75 or 100 dollars top for an install.
So you're looking at 375 TOPS for this setup. And it should sound great. JTL makes awesome subs (or so i've heard) if you wanna look into them.

EDIT: You may need to invest in some dynomat so your trunk doesn't rattle like crazy (i don't have a system in my stang yet, so i don't know, but i wouldn't be surprised if it rattled).

Realize: That uhm "tornado" amp probably pushes 50watts rms at the most

Type R subs are alright but I would take a CVX over a Type R (an I'm not a kicker fan)
