what should i do? need help.. (mach 460)
so i have a 2000 mustang GT with the mach 460 system in it. basically the chick that had the car before me had some people yank a bunch of sound system parts out when she had her subs removed and left me with the 2 back tweeters as the ONLY speakers running, and i think they are running off the cheap Pioneer headunit (50Wx4). the two rear amps arent there anymore but the front one is. all of the speakers are still in the car too but the wiring throughout the car is a mess...
part of my dilemna is that i have two kicker CVX subs from my old car which i am building a box for. the first thing i want to do is to get all of the speakers running. how should i go about doing this? i was thinking of buying the 2 stock rear amps and getting the whole system rewired? also, i am going to be running around 750 watts RMS to each sub (1500 rms and 3000 peak total). will i be able to get the subs installed with no problems or will i need to upgrade my alternator? thanks in advance for any help. i have been stressing over this for weeks... |

what head unit is in the car? if there is an aftermarket one in there, is it done right? the wiring harness for the 460 system is pretty high, but some people just hardwire the aftermarkets in. you will need the 460 amps and speakers to run the rear speakers. you can get power capacitors to compensate for the power, but i strongly advise a stronger alternator along with it.

the car has some cheap looking pioneer headunit (50Wx4 channels) so im thinking that the back two tweeters are each running off a channel. i had a new idea though. im thinking that since those back speakers have that big black box in the trunk, i would not be able to design a ported box for my subs because it would need to be about 4 cu ft + port displacement and driver displacement.
so im thinking if i take out that whole back speaker assembly it would free up a ton of room for a ported enclosure. then, i would modify the back panel to take 2 6x9's and maybe some tweeters. if i did this, wouldnt someone be able to easily wire the car with the stock front speakers and tweeters, the 2 6x9s (and maybe tweeters), aftermarket headunit, and subs (with 2 amps). because it sounds like the mach 460 system is all programmed in a really complicated way so wouldnt doing this just eliminate all the programming and such that the mach 460 runs off of? |

the 460 speakers have to run off the stock wiring harness. you can not tap into stock speakers and get good quality from it. i am 95% sure the tweeters will not work at all without stock wiring harness. there is no need to modify the rear dash for 6x9's, just get a good set of 3-way 5x7's. if you are going to do that, you will have to hard wire those speakers off the head unit. i am working on a cobra that some one butchered pretty bad. if you want new speakers all the way around, the easiest way is to either hard wire the head unit or get the harness to hook up to stock raido harness and get power. then hard wire all the componet speakers straight from the head unit.

i think what im going to do is buy the 2 rear amps, build my enclosure and wire the subs inside it, and bring the subs, enclosure, rear amps, and my 2 other amps for the subs to an audio shop and just let them wire it all up. will i need to upgrade my alternator to run around 1500 watts continous power (750 RMS per sub)?
