New Amp and Speakers
Ok guys I got an Infinity 5 channel amp and 2 pairs of Infinity Kappa 6 x 8s and was wondering if you guys could help me by telling me how to install them. I have a Shaker 500 system in my 2007 Mustang GT.
In the rear I will be installing regular Infinity Kappa 6 x 8s and in the front doors I will be installing component Infinity Kappa 6 x 8s. I will also be running the 2 8" factory subs to my 5 channel amp as well, bypassing the factory amp. So, has anyone done this or does anyone know how to do this? I would really appreciate it. |

I'm not familiar with installing 6x8's. But I can tell you that if that Infinity amp puts out any decent amount of power, your factory 8" subs, although decent dual voice coil units (for a factory piece), will not last long. If you can afford it, look at an after market shallow mount 8" sub to go in there. I have a pair of Pioneer shallow mount eights in my factory locations.

but the subs in there are free air subs and i cant find any 8" free air subs. I have heard that any enclosure subs I put in there will sound pretty bad.

No, actually, they are not free air. When you remove the door panel, you will find that the back of the panel is actually chambered for the sub. There is a horizontal plastic molded chamber that runs almost the length of the panel. The most you will have to do is cut a small slot in this chamber, as an after market 8, even a shallow mount one, will be slightly larger physically and need a touch more room.

btw these subs are ideal for sealed or free air use. So cutting the small slot in said chamber will not be a big deal for the performance of the sub.

Thanks man you're the best. Now, you obviously have to like the quality of these subs right?

if your looking for mid bass at all you should ditch oval speakers and get 6.5 round speakers. but install is simple just remove and replace. you might need to cut off the connectors for the speakers i think for uses a quick connect type piece and aftermarket speakers dont use that. those kappa speakers are nice speakers regardless.

I'm not looking for earth shattering bass what so ever. I am looking to have crystal clear music and when I play a dvd in my Pioneer AVIC D-3 I want it to sound like the movie theater.

movie theatres tend to have pretty earth shattering bass....
Thought I should maybe point that out. |

ouch good call. Maybe what I meant was that I am not looking to be obnoxious just a good clean sounding bass.

you may not have money for this but i've had this idea in my head for a little while...bu it is just a theory if my own so it might not really work
you could get two 8 inch subs for good clear, kicking bass, and then a single 12 or 14 inch (maybe even bigger if you want i guesss) to catch the really low 20-40Hz freqencies, which the 8's might not. that'll give you good clean bass from the 8's, while providing plenty of substance yhrough the 14. I would also have the 14 on its own independant amp to more easily control its volume, to make sure it's not too overwhelming, and also so you can turn it up for the "movie theathre" effect when you ant to watch a DVD in there. Zip, you're the pro on this, what do you think? |

I think it's a great idea. I'm a big fan of 12's, especially if you can get a good set of 8's in the car for mid bass. The only reason I didn't put 12's in mine was because of space. It was easier (although hard enough) and cheaper to put 10's in mine.
Also it comes down to what you are in to & how much you can afford. Some guys will just never be in to deep throbbing bass. Although usually they say that until they sit in an actual nice system, where as you noted, the big sub(s) can have their volume adjusted separately from the rest of the system. |
