Best Subwoofer and Amp

Any preferances on subs and amps. I am looking for an enclosure with subwoofers. Maybe 12s. The amp can be seperate from enclosure though. Any pics if you guys have any. Or websites.

Your thread title is "Best subwoofer and amp"...
There isn't really a best subwoofer or amp, different people like different base!
But if it were me, I'm choosing Alpine, 600w amp, 2 12" subs--- All type S
Type S sounds pretty good, there's really no need to waste 2 or 3 grand on trying to have "the best sub and amp". just pick a system like alpine or kenwood or even memphis subs... and u'll be alright. either way to get a good complete system (head unit, door & decklid speakers, box for subs/amp, amp, 2x subs) it's gonna cost about 1300 dollars.
but ur question was any preferences--
my preference is alpine Type S or Type R (R is louder, more expensive... but S sounds better to me) good luck in w/e u choose

I went with a Kicker set up. It's pretty good, but really pricey if you don't know someone who can give you a discount.

yea kicker's are good too, my friend had a 10in one in his old volks, and it sounded ok. alpines better tho, isn't really andthing that tops alpine-- it's top of the line. kenwood and kickers are close though, and memphis are well... they're memphis... they're better than that x-plod (LAFF) and pioneer (smaller laugh but still laugh) crap.

For subs I would go with kicker or JL audio. 2 Best sub manufacturers period IMO. Go with a sealed box, it will give you cleaner bass - especially over prolonged bass notes. Bandpass boxes FTL

For a sub amp, use a kicker or jl 2 channel amp for the like subs.

I had 3 JL Audio W3's in high school. I abused the crap out of them for 2 years...and they still hit as hard as the day I got them after I got rid of them. This was 4 years ago. the W7's are wicked. One 12 is all you need if you go that route.

Spoken like a true car audio newb!
Memphis > alpine

Anyway, to the OP: What do you want out of this system? Movie theater sound, Be heard a mile away bass, or a combo of both?

I have always been a huge fan of Pioneer. Ive been through just about every brand you can think of, and I always come back to Pioneer. It really comes down to personal preferance. Nevermind the price tag, or the companies reputation, if it sounds good to you, then thats all that really matters.

I used to run JL audio amps and subs, but once my car got broken into and everything was stolen, I decided to go a little cheaper route. JL Audio has amaaazing quality products, but obviously you pay for it. Right now I am running a Pioneer SPL 12" off of a JL Audio 500/1, with all MB Quart speakers powered by an Eclipse 4 channel amp controlled by my Pioneer head unit, and I couldnt be happier. I know some people cringe when it comes to mixing and matching brands, but like I said, it sounds amazing to me and works even better, and thats all that matters.

jl is good but for the price you spend its not worth it. you can get subs that sound damn near the same to a w7 for a fraction of the price.

audioque is a good brand with great performace from their subs. alpine is pretty good but you can get better. i own a kicker cvr10 and im left wanting more. im going with a audioque hdc3 10 soon.

what is your goal? to get loud or sound good?

how about a budget?

I got an alpine head unit, amp, and two Type S 12" and they are all awesome. The sound quality is alot better. The head unit made my stock speaker sound ten times better.

ssstang memphis is not better than alpine. u need to check contests, google it or something.

alpine almost always wins the competetions, really comes down to who has the most money... alpine type X and shit is like unbeatable.

memphis are alright, my friend i work with has one sub in his car.
by the way-- ported boxes are better than closed, they are louder... the more air space= the better.

this thread is full of misinformation. justinstang, you dont know what your talking about.

brands ive had good luck with

jl - pricey but your buying a name and look

kicker l series are nice and give you something diff to look at.

alpine - i just got a type r and have yet to hook it up, but i heard on the showroom floor and they sounded good

polk - good flea market speaker

amps, just make sure you get one that matches what you need. ohms, channels, rms power, inputs, outputs, crossover. a good amp will make shitty subs sound better. if your headunit doesnt have a good filter then buy an amp that has one. for subs i dont like to run mosfet type because they get hotter than like a class d. rockford makes a good amp but i dont like they're subs.
ive had good luck with kicker, rockford, and mtx amps.

i search ebay, swap meets, flea markets, and everyone i know that has something i want and buy all my stuff used. saves on the cost. audio usually works or it dont. just look for repairs, like poorly glued cones, soldering jobs, and epoxy crap on em.
