Question

Mystery Dial

Recently purchased 2001 Mustang GT with unknown aftermarket add-ons. When installing a stereo found what used to be a dial mounted to the center console which appears to still be hooked up to something, but was unable to follow the wire passed right-side kick panel. So I ignored and continued with stereo install. When install was completed the vehicle would not fire, due to what seemed like no fuel, but did not confirm that to be the case.

On further inspection I found if the dial is turned the vehicle would start. When running and the dial is turned one click the idle seemed to be effected, when turned once more the vehicle would die.

Could this be some sort of performance item? Like fuel volume, timing change, and ???????.

This is what we know has been done to this vehicle:

- Aftermarket X pipe exhaust without cats.
- Cold air intake.
- Aftermarket throttle body
- Various suspension upgrades.

Other then that not sure what else. Any ideas what that dial is??? What do the different settings apply to and why?? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

perhaps you could post a picture of the dial?

does it look like it was added to the car?

Yes, it is an add on, not factory. The dealership I got the vehicle from took the face of the dial off and covered it with a factory plug.

Located right behind shifter where the change spot is, and I do think I saw a plate that looked like that picture floating around in the glove box or something.

What kind of chip has that?? Where can I get info on the settings?? Where should the dial be set for normal driving/best fuel economy?? Any insight would be appreciated.

Well it has a chip and a tune in it...

You need to contact the dealership and tell them whats up and see if they can track down the previous owner...
