Custom Trunk Box

How hard is it to get the outline of the sides of the trunk? I want to make my own box, but I'm having difficulty getting the shape of the side of the trunk. I want it to be flush with the side of the trunk. It will look similar to this...

as you can see in the second to last picture the box isn't flush, it is just a square with carpeted top made flush to the shape of the trunk. To make it just make a square box and instead of a square top make the top have that extra hangover shaped to the shape of the trunk.

X2 The square box will sounds better and be easier to measure out to make sure you have the correct size.

The way I do it is to use cardboard. Take a pen and tape a peice of wood to it, and trace the outline with the wood, so the pen leaves a render of the panel. Cut out the cardboard, and test fit. Trim as required, then transfer to the panel you want to cut out. Remember to allow for any thickness differences in the final panel when you are cutting the cardboard. D U N. Done.
