halo and projector headlight and front turn signal recalls
I have been looking to by a set of headlight/turnlights for my GT. I would like projectors but the projector halos would be ok also. With so many choices I have been researching hard to see how they all look on the car. In my search I found a recall on at least four brands. This has me looking at all of the brands and asking before I buy. So far only one source has shown a fix but it is dorky looking.
The recall is for side marker reflectors. It seems to make the nice clean smoke or clear looking side marker or headlight/side marker sets, they leave out the amber reflector portion. This has lead to low visibility issues and accidents, followed by law suits against all parties involved. The one companies fix is a set of stick on reflectors to mount on the body side (kind of ugly but works). If you own a set with out reflectors look to see if you have a recall. If you have a set that has built in amber reflectors please let me know the make I would like to see them. If you have aftermarket lights check them in the dark with head lights from a approaching path on the side you may have low visibility. Amber reflectivity is a NTSB/DOT requirement. I live in a town where being seen is a must (snow birds/old farts, foreign drivers, military) with most driver in a higher risk catagory. Also some night pics of sets would help me decide which look is best. |

if it doesn't have a amber reflector, what if you put a amber bulb in the side marker... i just bought a set off ebay, with NO side reflectors, but i'm gonna put an amber bulb un it! do you think that would be visible enough?

The reflector is passive and is required to show when car lights are off to my understanding. When you have park lights then the amber buld would be great but if it burns our or you a parked with lights out that is I thing the DOT and NTSB recall.
I have a set of amber LED bulbs to put in the set I buy, when I find out what works. The recall link for those lights that are reported bad is: http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Mu.../recalls.shtml this is for my 95 but is same light for a few years. |
